Wanted to do a custom muffler and I really like Yoshimura look and quality. I knew I wanted a carbon fiber set, so the ebay search began. After a month, I came across a brand new set of GSXR1000 slipons. The price was incredible so I placed my bid and won. They have a straight inlet and after loking at how the stock mufflers fit, I knew I could make them work. I got couplers from advanced auto parts and got to work. The exhaust options for our bikes are limited so I hope this encourages other people to try something different. The sound on these mufflers is, IMO, absolutely perfect. No drone, lots of growl and when you are at a steady pace not much louder than stock. Plus they look awesome. Flow with the bike well. Here are some pics.

In my opinon they don' t look good. The classy look of the bike has gone with these pipes. But your bike and your taste can't judge but as other friends ı wonder about how these sound.

Well thanks. IMO classy has been done to death, since 2001. Wanted something different, that sounded great and was race inspired. While you all are having a classy polish party, I will be enjoying my carbon fiber.

So as many of you I am sure have, I raced and rode offroad for many years. It was my biggest passion and I still love it. I also love working on bikes and was a service manager/wanna be tech for a Honda motorcycle dealer. During my time there I did a lot of the long fabricating projects and one off weird stuff that customers requested for their bikes. I loved it. Anyway, I found that my style was that of a blender. New school with old school and especially Dirt and Street. I just liked doing things that brought different worlds together and made them work. My last bike was an NC700x and it had a YZ450 muffler and mid pipe on it. Barkbusters included. When I purchased my Valkyrie I knew I wanted my Enduro style handguards and they were my first edition. Little did I know what a good decision they were. The day after I put them on, I, with my wife on the back, was side swiped by a car. I am fairly certain that without them, the quarter panel would have smashed my front brake and caused me to fall. I was able to ride away without a scratch, not only that but my bike was spared from any damage also. Bounced off the Kia like I had bounced off of so many pine trees in the past. (picture attached). Anyway, I did not want a big windshield, and the stock screen I had leftover from MY NC700 flowed with the bike and actually, in conjunction with the handguards, protects me pretty well from the wind. IMO the Barkbusters really help with hand fatigue on long rides. As far as the mufflers, just wanted to bring a little bit of sport to my Valkyrie. The Yoshimura's are works of art in my opinion and I love the way they look with the handguards, bag and general overall theme of my bike. I recommend the skid plate too. I saw a Goldwing with a piece of steel through the case one time, several thousand later, it had new cases. Sorry for being long winded, but I am passionate about bikes and my Valkyrie. Happy to finally have a place to talk about it. http://vrcc.photostash.com/vrcc_37733/accident%20picture.jpghttp://vrcc.photostash.com/vrcc_37733/CRF%20wheelie.jpghttp://vrcc.photostash.com/vrcc_37733/NC1.jpg

I may not enjoy the look of those pipes but I do respect and give a round of applause for the effort to do something new! Its your bike, you ride it how you want to and you make it look how you want to. If you are serious about selling those stock pipes, PM me. I'm pretty sure I can mad scientist a better sounding pipe if I can get a look inside the stock guts. I modified my old Vrod pipes to get a good sound back in the day without losing too much back pressure. Might be able to do it again with these.

I always loved the sound from a Yoshimura pipe.
I am not a big fan on the look of them on the Valk, but I would love to hear what she sounds like.
I love the sound of the stock pipes too much. I won't change those out.

I think they don't look half bad. I'll bet you shaved a few pounds too. Suggestion - Cover the chrome piece, the ones before the new cans, with carbon fiber decal. I would love to hear how they sound. Also, did you change the handlebars? Thanks...

Hey Bamo,
What is the deal with the hand guards? I like them. Where did you get them? Do you have a link or a part number? Did they require any modifying to make fit? Also what tank bag is that?
thanks

I got that suggestion about the carbon fiber vinyl form some one on the Facebook page I am a part of , I like the idea and am going to look into it. I did touch the shield after my last ride and even though there is plenty of space between the pipes and the shields, it burned my finger. I think the vinyl would be okay, but not sure about the heat. I have gotten a lot of PM's about the handguards so here is the link. Make sure you get the correct adapter for our bars. The handguards are great on long rides and when you are cruising above 50. I really notice them when I take them off, you miss them. And also in the rain. I did cut my brake levers down, another dirtbike thing, to get clearance between the levers and handguards. I cut them with a dremel and used a flap wheel to smooth the edges. I really think they saved me from a crash, and after putting a pretty good dent in the quarter panel of the SUV, not even the plastic had a scratch. Not to mention, I had all my digits. Hope this helps. http://www.twistedthrottle.com/barkbusters-storm-s5-handguards-with-single-sided-bar-end-mounting-kit-for-7-8-or-1-bars

I remember seeing a few friends with Yoshis on their bikes. Sometimes on really hard riding you'd get a lil flame pop on decel and hard running.
Do you get the flames with these on the bike?

Ha ha Moofner, you are interested in this rebel attitude ! Kind of lights you didn't think of @Bamo : I changed me OEM levers for adjustable second hand GW levers and the OEM brake pads for Lucas brake pads. According to Motorrad (the huge german bike magazine), there are the finest pads (as good as the Brembos but cheaper).

ADJUSTABLE LEVERS?!?!?!? Well there goes more of my money. I will also look into those pads. Stock is very metallic and although they last forever they make a lot of noise. Maybe the others will be a little quieter too. Better stopping is a plus too.

I already solved that lil problem of adding lights to the bike. Just take my money.

@Bamo : alas, even with the Lucas pads, the brakes are still noisy (most of the time) I asked the dealer he said it's normal with these calipers.
