I broke the mount on my right turn signal when I reattached it, so I purchased a replacement. Turns out that though it is the correct turn signal, it isn't a match for the one currently on my bike.

Here is a pic - replacement on the left, current on the right:

Is my current turn signal an OEM part or aftermarket? Anyone know? When I look the parts up on Partzilla they all seem to be the same on the custom, IS, and Tourer...

The one on your bike is aftermarket. I don't recognize it.

+1 aftermarket on your bike.
Probably be easier to just replace both with OEM than figure out what is on there now.

Pretty sure those are VTX signals.  Look like the VTX ones I put on Deerslayer.

Definitely not a Valk or VTX part from 01' or 02' as they are the same. I'd say a aftermarket replacement.

BTW MarkT thats a fine looking red Valk you have there. Is that a VTX headlight bucket?

They must have changed the VTX style later because I bought 4 of them at significant cost from Honda because they looked different, more streamlined & pointy, fronts different.  Like in the picture. They also wired them different IIRC they were 1156 sockets in front; they used resistors I guess.  Been awhile forget the detail.

Pictures of VTX signals on Deerslayer at my tech tips writeup:

Yep VTX bucket in front.  Just replaced it because one of the PO's tried to clean it with scotchbrite or the like, badly scratched.  While at it I replaced the Dragon graphic with a symmetrical tribal devil/dragon and another tribal flying dragon on the side panel. Bucket pic not under the best of conditions:

My '00 interstate had stock signals where the lenses were held in the bottom with 1 screw, same as my brothers '06 vtx 1300R  My '97 standard has the lenses held in with 2 screws through the front of the lense which i believe is also stock signals. Dont know if the shape of the housing was different but there are different signals on valks. As far as the vtx there is an 1800 and a 1300 and many model variations such as N, R, C, S, F, T so there are probably a few different signals on those as well

Ok, do all turn signals on the valk use the same wiring? I notice that the stock signal that I bought has 3 wires sticking out with spade-like connector plugs. As mentioned earlier, the existing (supposedly aftermarket) lights don't seem to have a point of connection that corresponds with the stock signal wiring length.

So... my winter project will probably be to replace the aftermarket signals with stocks. Does anyone know where these wires connect to the electrical system? I looked through the service manual plus Clymer and there doesn't seem to be any reference there.

Here's my dilemma:

I am perfectly happy to get the stock replacements, cut the wires, and then attach the new wires, solder/tape, and be done with it. I'm just worried that I cut the wire and then BOOM, I find out that the aftermarket signals only use, for example, 2 wires while my stocks have 3...

That would not be cool.

I believe the 3 wire ones are for Interstates.

The front signals attach inside the headlight bucket.

The rears attach under the taillight in the tailight assembly.

Fronts will have three wires; the rt. side has solid blue for the turn signal and blue with a white stripe for the run light.  The left side is the same but is orange.
