I am a newbie. For 30 years I rode Harleys, it got to hurting to much to ride it so I sold it. I found a 2000 standard with 44000 miles. It is in excellent condition and has all the chrome. I have changed the oil and filter using Mobil 1 synthetic motorcycle oil, changed rear wheel fluid using Mobile 1 synthetic gear oil, lube the rear hub splines with Honda m77,flushed and filled radiator with Honda antifreeze, I have changed fluid in front and rear brakes and the clutch and I rebuilt the petcock. Is there anything else I need to do to my pride and

Yes, the next two things you need to do:
1) Post pics so we can enjoy seeing what you ride.
2) Go out and RIDE!!! Be safe.

Now,
ride the hell out of it. You will find one problem with the Valkyrie, your face muscles will be frozen into a great big smile.
The only thing I would ad is put a couple ounces of SeaFoam in the tank, and use a large dose before putting it up for winter storage (if you have to store it). The 6 carbs run much better when clean, and today's gas is hard on them, especially during long term storage.
Like others have said, update your profile so we know where you are located, and post a picture.

Rear splines and petcock, the 2 things I always recommend to a new owner when they have no history of when it was last maintained. Those and change all your fluids.
Read up on hydrolock, so you understand what to listen for when starting your bike.
Just enjoy it. Anything else done is just because you want to do something nice for it.

I hope you read up on the re-assembly sequence for the rear wheel / final drive. Premature wear is the result of improper assembly |

I'd do the desmog and add a Dan Marc solenoid in the fuel line. Dan Marc for Hydrolock insurance and the Desmog to reduce clutter and prevent future vacuum leaks. |

Young kids? Ross, listen to you....young man.  Ray o7****, glad to see you enjoy what I've found to be the best ride I've ever owned. It appears you have the first order of business covered re. maintenance, maybe later on a desmog will be done to get rid of numerous vacuum hoses but of now....ride it like you stole it.  |

Thanks to all who replied and for all the answers I received. I have been riding and learning to handle the old girl. She is different from the Harleys at low speed. I will soon need new foot pegs as these are slowly being ground off, what a rush!

Hey Ray******, you have found the best bike on the road today! AND you have found an outstanding forum where you can find the answers to almost anything Valkyrie related. When I was building mine from parts from the internet, I had many questions and without fail, and without any "smart" remarks, it only took 9 months to collect and assemble the parts. On my test ride, I rode from south Mississippi to attend Insane 15 (in Spearfish, S.D.) and then on up to the Canadian border and then back to MS without any probs.  Enjoy the ride! And this forum. I must warn you however, the general board contains political content.  |
