What will cause a relay to go bad.  I had a bad one and it was replaced with a relay from Mars that cost $50.  Well that one did not last very long.  A month later and that one is now bad.  Any ideas other than buying one from Auto Zone for $5.00.  I was hoping somebody might be able to explain what causes them to go bad.

They don't like moisture.  Most are not sealed very well.

It is also possible that you're using one with contacts rated at or below the level load of your circuit.  I don't know which lights you're running,  but I'd imagine that 10A relay contacts might be your recommended minimum.  Try a heavier duty unit this time around.

As previously stated, a relay has an amp rating for the secondary circuit. primary circuit is to the switch and secondary circuit to the fog Lights you are using. the fog lights should have come with an amp rating but if they did not, look at the rating on the relay and use a fuse of that specified amperage. The fuse should be installed between the power source and the relay on the secondary circuit and if it blows you will need to up the relay amp value and fuse too.

They are the oem lights that go in the pods on the Interstate.

From  Jeff K's Generic parts  page

Valkyrie Interstate Driving Light Relay

AutoZone sells a Pilot (brand) Replacement Relay for $4.99

The Pilot relay model number on the packaging card is PL-RY1.

Note: Number C0249 is printed on the relay itself.

Also

Interstate - (Hondaline Driving lites), and found that a Fog lite Relay from
 a Honda CR-V # 39797-SE0-004 is exactly the same
