Well let's see if the new band is a fit with the new flat textured covers, thoughts?

I will wipe off the extra oil on the cover.

Jerry,

Do you have a picture from farther away?  I would like to see the whole bike to get the big picture.  I am liking the powder coat, but I am not sure of the chrome band.  Is that from an older wing??

The band is OEM Honda but not something that came on a bike from my understanding, moreover a Honda dress up piece. The price was a a ridiculous $154 plus shipping so I gave up on paying that for a piece of plastic. Then I happened to find it on amazon for $50 so I went for it, never to see that price again.    Even $50 is stupid. Yes I'm stupid.   Full on wing f6b and 1800c Valk is all the same band

Looks real sharp Jerry.  I Look forward to pictures of the entire "Black Phantom" with all the other blacked out goodies.
I also REALLY like the White paint job Kidd put on his Valk. Good to see people finally making these bike their own, like sooo many did with it's predecessor 1500 Valkyrie

I really dig the "Honda" band. The black Honda lettering looks perfect against the black cover. The chrome pops, but not too much. Just enough to look great on a blacked out bike. Beautiful cooldude

That looks awesome Jerry.  That is the way Honda should have made the black ones.   cooldude

When did you get your forks done?  Did you paint them, or did you get them powder coated?  I have been considering doing mine as well.

I am also considering getting my exhaust powder coated, but I am not too sure how the powder coating will hold up though.

Also, what height is your windshield?  I have been throwing around getting a Secdem windshield, but when I go on their site they indicate that 51cm is the tallest but yours looks taller.

I can't disagree and have thought more about that after seeing the post of Kidd and the white cover. But What does the guitar man say, chrome or gloss black???

It was time for new boots and while the front was off (wheel, brake calipers and fender) I shot it with Sherwinn Williams catalyzed auto paint.  I used a semi black.   I might shoot the side covers gloss black as I have some SW gloss as well.

Also will send you a PM soon.

I got your PM.

I will be interested in seeing the side covers when you do them.  I want to paint mine, but my wife really likes them the way it is.  Maybe when she sees yours done she will change her mind.   Grin

**Gloss black man...Rustoleum makes a VERY good, one step paint that adheres very well to plastic and wood.  It is available in gloss black.  I have used the stuff before for many projects...check this out.

A buddy and I made a custom Baltic Birch back panel for one of my guitar cabinets to improve cut and clarity...  I used it to paint the wood.  The stuff is killer.  Tough as nails too..Not a salesmen for Rustoleum...but man, their paint is great...Have used it for painting trailer frames, model airplanes (fuel proof), exhaust systems, grills...it is just lasts forever...good stuff.

Well Jerry,

You have inspired me to get my valve covers powder coated.  I am getting the badge done as well.  They are at the powder coaters right now along with my heel-toe shifter and couple of other things.

I also decided to paint the front forks like you did.  I really like the look.
I found a paint company (Eastwood paints) that sell a two party epoxy primer in a spray can.  The can has two chambers in it and the stuff mixes at the nozzle.  Once you use it though, it cannot be used again.  I also bought a couple of cans of their Rat Rod satin black paint for the top coat.  Their stuff gets pretty good reviews.
I decided that I will take the forks off the bike to do them, so that I don't have to wrap the bike up completely in plastic to spray.  I was going to get them powder coated as well, but it was too much work taking the forks completely apart.

I will post pics when everything is back together.

I'm digging all these ideas. I've been poking the wife and hinting at a paint job, too. I'm thinking a bright almost neon/lime green with a purple racing stripe down the side lines of the bike. The side covers would be included and a tear down of some of the dull gray parts for powder coating.

I've held off because of riding and I have to choose which bike to put money into. The old Valk needs some love (new suspension, switches looked at, new front brakes, and some rear drive spline maintenance). I've also put a new seat off for the new Valk for too long, so that needs at least $500 spent. Oh, lets not forget my VW baja bug that could be on the road again if I just sink some time and money into it...

All of your ideas are making me hungry for the next project!

I used a catalyzed auto paint that uses a reducer - hardener - pant combination on the forks and it was easy to tape/auto paper with no overspray   It was on a lift with the brakes, wheel and fender off. Easy to spin the fork    crazy2

The hardener is key.

It seems to me , you could use some of the very thin plastic  sheeting , tear  2 holes
( or one larger hole for both forks)  in it and slip over the fork ends  and slide it up over the bike .

Of course , you'd need to remove the wheel and brakes  , better than removing the  forks

I also lightly sanded the primer with 220 so as to make a mechanical bond then wiped it off with tac cloth and then used a prep-sol to wipe it down then shot the black. The forks have a natural texture that looks good when shot black and I used a semi black.

With the stuff I got, no sanding is necessary.  You can put the top coat on after only 15 min of putting on the primer.  I like that.  Easy painting.

Sheffjs, nice one mate. I think this is the way I may go, also looking at painting the side covers gloss black since I saw those ones painted white. It would need to be pretty touch stuff so. With the Corbin seat those covers come on and off but they rub under the seat considerably doing so. It would look ugly if it started damaging the paint, not something that bothers the straight plastic it seems.

Shrubbo,

I have also been really thinking of painting my side covers gloss black as well.  Maybe, I can find a cheap set of OEM ones to try it.  Then if I don't like it I can change them back.

....Hey Robert or Adrian....want to sell your old side covers?????

Looks really good.... I plan on getting the valve covers, timing belt covers, and the 4 carb intakes, on my 1975 GL1000 powder coated RED this winter.... Will really make the bike stand out, like my Valkyrie does.  It's amazing what a little accent can change how the bike looks.          Happy holidays to all

You know Kidd, after I thought about it.  That is exactly what I did.  I got the forks all sanded and the whole bike is covered in plastic.  I will spray it next weekend.  I don't know how long it will take to prime and paint, but I want to give myself the whole day to do it instead of a rush job.
Thanks for the suggestion.   cooldude

Here is what it looks like all covered in plastic.

I just finished sanding the forks at this point.

I have now cleaned them with TSP, so it is all ready now for the primer and paint this weekend.
