 Angry

I have enjoyed my new Audiovox cruise control for all of about 48-hours. This evening I was out for a ride and activated the CC...all was well. A couple minutes later, I pressed the DEF (defeat)  button to turn it off. When I hit "ON" again, the green light in the center of the control pad lit up and then immediately went off. Hit it again and the same thing happened. So whats up with that?? I carefully checked all connections and can't find a thing wrong. Is it possible that the control pad is bad? The buttons on the pad stay illuminated so it's getting power. What a PIA!!

Anyone have this happen? Any suggestions??

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Make sure your connections are tight in the wire block. Also double check and make sure no wires are touching anything or each other.

I think...it's not detecting the brake light circuit. It trickles though the brake light to ground to determine if it's working so that it can be deactivated...

Check your wiring...and I think I understood you put in a relay for the brake light thing...check that.

I'll be on a ride Saturday but I think you're planning on being gone also by then. Take an afternoon off, give me a call so I can be certain to be home. It might be a relay problem but doubt it...was new item. I have another to sub if needed, but check your ground connections...especially if you connected the two together before fastening them to the frame or wherever you grounded them.

I have taken several new in the box relay's out & found them to be bad.

I guess that is because we always buy NAPA stuff huh?

I will check all ground wires and relay tonight. John I would come by this afternoon but just don't have the time.

I will report back what I find. Hope I get it straightened out before the trip on Saturday  Angry

My CC would trip off because of a sticky brake lever. I had to take my lever off, tap the bushing back in, lube it up, and put it back on (a 3 minute job). Cleared everything up on mine. I'd try that before messing with the wiring...

There are two fuses in the audiovox  system I had one that was not making good connection my cruise would do the same thing. Use a test light and make sure power is going thru both fuses. I've installed four of these units and have not had any problems at all.

Two fuses? I have one and it is between the control pad (grey/red/orange wires) and the 12v source. The hot wire to the servo is wired directly to 12v w/out a fuse. If they fuse was bad, the control pad would not illuminate, but it does, so that can't be the problem.

Tonight I replaced the relay (not the problem), checked all grounds and remade any that looked remotely suspect, checked and double checked connections between control pad and servo. Also checked and cleaned the handbrake plunger to make sure it wasn't sticking. Same with foot brake light switch.Went for a short ride and hit the "ON" button. The indicator light came on and stayed on  Smiley.......for about ten seconds, then went out  Angry  Hit it again and it stayed on and worked correctly for the rest of the evening  Smiley So now I seem to have an intermittent problem. I don't have any time left to mess with it before our trip so, it is what it is until I get back.

Thanks to all for your suggestions!

I second the use of soldering and shrink tape for all connections.

Just returned from a week in North Carolina. Did the Dragon, did the Cherohala Skyway as well as a run over to Alabama. The cruise control worked flawlessly with only two check-valves and no canister. The speed never fell below 3-mph from where it was set...and that was on some pretty serious grades.

We had a great trip  Cheesy I will post some pics and do a report later
