Angry  was gonna take a ride with my grandson but it never happened.
his bike had sat for a couple months, we had the time, so thought we'd head up to the N. Ga mountains.
Two Wheels in Suches to be exact.
any way his (97 Magna) would start with choke and half throttle but wouldn't keep running. put in some seafoam and let it sit for a while.
now it will start right up with choke and  NO extra throttle, like it is suppose to. starts fast and strong but put in the choke and it dies. letting it sit again overnight to see of the seafoam will clean up some more.

any ideas?

Put some berrymans b12 in it . It's the best fuel system cleaner in my opinion . Sea foam never did much for me. If you can start it and run it long enough to get gas into the carbs then let it sit overnight and let it do it's magic. I run b12 once a month

Dont understand why you need to pull the choke if it starts " Fast and Strong"?
Can you give it throttle and it still run?

Any bike will die if you pull the choke while it is running.  If it is running on the choke let it run then take the choke off a dlet it run  DONT put the choke back on

it will only start with the choke on and it starts fast and hard.
it's after i let it run a bit to warm up and turn off the choke that it dies.
will not restart unless choke is pulled on.
think i'll drain the old gas, put in some b12 and fresh non ethanol gas and see what happens.

E-Valk is onto the problem, carbs gummed up. Will it die if you lower the choke slowly and give it throttle? I am currently going through this with my '99 Tourer, I put Seafoam in, start it exactly the same way you do with the Magna every morning hoping something will change, but so far nada. I did not try Berrymans. Good luck with the bike.

update........almost there. i drained what gas i could and put in fresh non ethanol gas and just a little more b12 than recommended.
let it run some and took it out for about 25 miles. at stop lights i'd have to keep the rpm's up to keep from stalling. by the time i got home it will almost idle with giving it  throttle but not quite. thinking now of upping the idle a bit just to keep it from dying and running it more the next few days and hope the b12 cleans it more.
thanks for all the info
