I'm riding trough Twisties and been using a lot of engine braking, friends behind me told me my bike was smoking while engine braking, is that OK?

I haven't seen any Valkyries do that. But I agree with WintrSol. It's probably worn valve guides.

I have seen it on a close friends Valk. He had a puff on startup and after deceleration. We went on a trip to Colorado and he found his crankcase to be a quart low along the way. I replaced the valve stem seals and the problem is gone. That was about a year and a half ago and all is well. It's not a bad job with the right tool but it is tedious. This is the link to my write up is here http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,76208.0.html

Basic auto Tech. Should be the same on our engines.
Blue smoke on acceleration, oil going by the rings. Worn rings and/or cylinders, or too much oil.
Blue smoke on deceleration, the "vacuum" action of the cylinders draws oil through the valve stems past the valve stem seals. Could be worn guides and/or seals.
The amount of smoke shows how severe the problem is.

The only real trick to the job, is finding the spring compression tool that actually fits. Otherwise, it's just pick and place.

well it might be something other than the motor that's smoking--that's the impression since it's during hard braking. if it's oil smoke due to bad valve seals, you'd see some of that just idling, and you'd see the dipstick level drop over a period of time. if it's brakes smoking, then you'd know it's rotors/pads or maybe some oil got on there. I know if the fork seals leak enough it can get onto the rotors, in which case your brakes would be lousy--how were the brakes performing when you were doing that hard braking--normal, or less than?

Re-read the post it say Engine Brakinge. ie using the gear box to slow the bike not the brakes.

Thanks,
Couldn't it be related for a rich mixture on the carbs? I'm probably running too rich in the low jet

This the one that I used. It was important to get it seated on the spring close enough to the head to get enough compression but it worked every time and I never had a spring let go while it was compressed. I did have a friend lend an extra hand. I also used it on a GL1000 that has inner and outer springs and did it by myself without incident. We never saw smoke while idling. It was only at start up or after deceleration. And in the beginning it only used an imperceptible amount of oil. That is, until we got into the mountains and used a lot of engine braking. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002STSGC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

What color smoke??? Light Blue (White) means oil (check guides as stated above). Dark Grey (Black) means fuel (too rich on decel). Reduce low speed jets by 1 size and see if it helps.

Thanks for that; it looks like another tool I need, so I just ordered one from WalMart.
