I bought a 1998 Valyrie & I have not heard the fan motor come on at all. While in rush hr in Houston TX I seen my temp light come on, I got the green light right after it come on. It went off as soon as I started moving. My ? is has any one found a fan motor that will replace just the motor with out replacing the whole unit. I have only put about 450 miles on it in 2 weeks & this was the first time the temp light came on. Thanks for any info Bill

I live in Lubbock, Tx, and my fan hardly ever comes on. You can test your fan by unplugging it from the switch. (Bottom left side of radiator.) Ground it, then turn the key on. The fan should turn on.

First, the fan motor should come on BEFORE the high temp light. No fan, then you have a problem.
Most have found something wrong, but no motor needs replacing (yet).
First thing to do is to manually turn the fan while the bike is turned off. Confirm there is nothing stopping the fan from spinning. If there is, find out, and fix it.
You need to find the temp sending unit, and take the lead off it, and touch it to the motor while the ignition is on. The temp sending unit allows electricity to ground. Touching the lead to the motor should start the fan up.
Get back to us with what you find out.

What part of Houston are you close to. Fan is controlled by sending unit at bottom conter of radiator on the inside of radiator. The sending unit grounds the fan and causes it to come on. Removed the wire and put it to ground turn key on and fan should run. Also check fuse and if bike has set up a while check to see if something is blocking blades of fan.

I have a few suggestions for you look at too. Check the level of coolant behind the left cover, the fluid expands so if you check it with the engine hot it will be on the upper mark or a bit higher, check it with the engine cold. Try turning the fan with your hand make sure there isn't an ubstruction stopping it from turning. A lot of riders will install a switch in line to the temp probe to ground and manually turn on the fan. Safe riding

Sorry I have not got back with you all but I have been to busy to even think about the bike let alone work on it. I hope to have this weekend free so I will check it out & let everyone know what I find. The only time it has came on it sounded like it had a bearing going out, but I haven't had time to ride it long enough to come back on. It only had 7500 miles on it when I got it, I have put a little over 500 miles on it since I got it. I just picked up a filter & oil so maybe I can get that done & check that fan. Thanks for the info guys By the way I am in Conroe TX about a hr north of Houston

B-2. Plenty of good people in your area. I'm about 45 miles to the southeast in Huffman. MarcusS is in spring. Gear jammer is in Magnolia and Investigator is in New Waverly. Lots of help give us a holler. I'm sure I missed some too.

Sorry guys I have just been to busy to even look at it. I finally tore into it & found that the PO had taken the rad off & some how got the rubber heat sheild pushed up in to the fan & mested up the fan blades. I got a used one off of e-bay & just replaced it, after a new fuse everything works great. We took it out for a little ride today we put almost 100 miles on it today, & we both love it. There are a few things I wish it had on it that we miss from our old Goldwing. But with time I'm sure I'll put most of them on it. I think the bigges't thing is a fuel gauge, I'm sure there are after market ones so I'll check them out. Thanks for all of the info guys I will have to met up with some of you that are close & maybe take a ride some time.

Glad to hear back as to what you found wrong.
As for the fuel gauge, it's not the gauge that is hard to find, it's the sending unit. I think the only way is to get an IS tank, which has one. Also goes from the 5.3 to 6.9 US Gal tank.
There is write ups about it. Something about the sending unit operates backwards. Something like high ohm when full and low went empty, or vis-versa. Search and read, it will explain and make sense.
Good luck.
