Hello gurus
Tire was off bearing changed, and remounted, took the bikes for 2 hrs ride , everything was fine as I was checking my speed occasionally but on way back noticed, speedo is at zero. The tach is working fine, everything else works, the screen display included. Got home jacked it up unscrewed the cable, the shaft in the gear box spins as I spin the tire as it should, I lined the groove in the sensor to the shaft in the gear box, snugged it, took it out 10 miles, not working.
Battery and alt are good.
Your help is appreciated

Larue, judging by your description, sounds like either a bad connection somewhere or possibly a broken wire.

My speed sensor at the wheel went  on my Interstate.  I've heard of a 3 or 4 more people that had the same problem  on this board and a new sensor solved the problem . I think I paid in the $ 65 dollar range

Let us know what works and we all learn    cooldude

Thank you john and dusty, ordered the sensor and hope that will fix it, will post results once I get the part. I wanted to check the connection under the fairing left cover only to face the dreaded turning screws, none of them would come out, didn't wanna yank the fairing in fear I break it. One problem leads to another I guess

With a putty knife, you pry the cover off, after removing all the screws that will turn out. Just a slight pressure. You may turn the loose ones too, not too much, it will just "file" out those holes they are mounted in.

Well I think I found the culprit, I received the replacement unit today and when I separated the speedo gear from the the sensor box, I found out the gear shaft in the new unit sticks out half inch outside its hole to engage the sensor when the wheel spins. Compared to the one on the bike I could hardly see the shaft which I deduce was broken and I can only see what's left of it spinning  when I spin the wheel -and that's using a flash light. In conclusion it's the gear and not electric. Tire needs to come off and change the gear out. I was successful following your advice guys to pry the inner fairing speaker side cover out, as mentioned before the little screws were spinning in the insert couldn't get them out to check if I had a bad connection there. Will jb weld the inserts back after taking the screws out and anti seize the little screws. Hope that helps
