I purchased a used set of highway pegs and have a question regarding installation.  I want to mount them as shown in first picture.  The pegs have a rubber cushion as shown in second picture.  When I mount them where I want, the cushion will be against the bottom of the valve cover.  Is that ok or will the heat from valve cover melt the cushion.  Thanks...

No melting. I had that style and there weren't any issues with the heat. Enjoy!

What is the purpose of it ? To keep the mount from turning on the tube ?
