Has anyone found this before?  I have 99 Standard, California model.   I'm removing the air box to check for cracked hoses. I have noticed that after a ride when I park it back in the garage I can smell fuel.  And when I removed the air cleaner cover and pulled out the air filter I noticed a small amount of clean oil in the bottom.  I also noticed that my air filter smells like it was dipped in gas??  The bike runs great but something just don't seem right here.

Any Ideas ????

I would suggest checking the drain hose on the underside, it needs drained periodically.  Also a K&N filter is oiled before installing, could be the source of your oil, if it was overdone.  Hope it helps.  Hoser

Ya I checked the drain tube. Just a drop or two. The air filter is a Honda OEM filter. Not sure what's go'n on.  Just seems a lttle werd.  My wife first noticed the gas smell one night a few weeks ago right after I turned it off.  Now I notice it every time it is shut down.

The oil in the air box is due to the PCV hose. It's oil vapor and when it goes down the drain hose we call it Dragon Drool. Normal. A fuel smell is another problem. These bikes like running rich, but too much will cause the odor. Also check the petcock drip hole. Place clean paper towels under the carbs when you shut it down and recheck in the morning. Might tell you something.

Perhaps one of the carb drain screws is leaking and needs to be snugged. Anything on the floor?

Is there any staining on the heads around the bottom of the intakes? If so, o-ring/s are bad.

Run your finger across the bottom of the petcock over the vent nipple after you shut it down. Any moisture = failing diaphragm requiring rebuild kit.

The oil in the airbox=normal

gas smell after shut down=check gas cap

gas smell on air filter=Never smelled mine, but unless its wet, I think normal

Sandy,  you were right about the drain/vent hose.   Right where the T is the bottom drain hose had came off.  The bottom of the Tee was exposed to dust and so slowly clogged up.  That also seemed to prevent the air box from being able to vent.

Thanks.....
