13" is OE.  I wouldn't go shorter than 12.5" (if you like to lean when riding).

I just replaced my 416's with the 444's in the stock 13" length and HD springs definitely wouldn't go any shorter than 12.5" unless I was running solo full time and running a 60 or 65 series car tire.  I push about 240lbs and I am sure the wife is let's just say somewhere over a buck and a quarter and we ride an InterState we have the shocks set at 4 turns down and seems about perfect unloaded and two up.

This is my 3rd set of shocks since I bought the bike in 2005. Original stock came on it. Thought I would "Upgrade" to the 416's and it was sort of. After the second internal failure a couple months ago I spent the money and ordered ed the 444's and they are great but only time will tell how good they really are.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I had oem length and it was way to tall for me. Must be cause they were stiffer then oem I/S. I went with the 12" HD and am very pleased. No prob cornering 2 up loaded.
