I posted a "wanted" ad on the forum here for a tachometer.  I have a guy out of the UK offering to sell me one.  Says his name is Jerry Gardner.  Willing to ship it to me.  Now I am on a couple other boards, a lot (OK wayyy too much) and know a lot of folks over there and wouldn't have a hard time buying something like that, knowing the people after so long.  Being new around here and not knowing anyone I am very apprehensive to do such a thing.
So, good to go?  Y'all know him and its a stand up deal?  Run, run like the wind!

Thanks

Was the reply email worded something like this:?

My name is __________. I saw your wanted ad. Kindly shoot me a mail if you are still in need of item as I have to offer.

Thanks.

No specific reference to what you want, or anything?  If that's the case, might be a spammer.  Proceed with caution.  I got two of those from two different guys in U.K. when I was looking for Kury Hiway pegs.  neither one was real.  Reply email was almost verbatim from the two different guys other than their name and address.

Good luck!

My advise would be to walk away from this transaction...it looks extremely "fishy".

I've gotten several similar responses each time I've posted a Want to Trade ad.  The first time it happened was an offer to sell me what I wanted to trade for.  I emailed to try to clarify and got no response.  The second time it happened, I just ignored it.

Got one once with a for sale ad that asked questions about stuff stated in my ad. Told him to read the ad again and never heard back. Scammer

He replied to one of my ads also. His first price was super high, almost triple what I could buy the item from HDL. Then he had more replies coming down on price insisting on my mailing info each time. The entire thing smelled like a scam.

Same experience when I was looking for a F6C tank emblem with suspiciously similar wording. Walk away.
