Neon Leon's is no more

The former Neon Leon's Restaurant was closed, and the building sold, a few days prior to Hurricane Hermine arriving. The new owner had started renovations when the Hurricane hit, and after many hours of cleanup and installing new equipment, the place reopened as the Suncoast Bar and Grill, on Saturday, October 15. I have no info on whether Neon Leon's will reopen in a different location, or is gone forever.

    Went to the Shed yesterday and noticed Neon Leon had a new name. Someone was talking about Neon Leon's Saturday at the Sunoco station and how good the food was. Also that the owner was related to Lynard Skynard or a member of his band, did not know that either.

I think the original owner left awhile ago and has opened up under a new name. My friend was telling me this awhile ago, I will try and get the New Name and New Location from him.

You mean that the high school teacher had a band also?
You do realize that there was no one in the band with that name don't you.? They named the band after a teacher who's name was Leonard Skinner.

Sorry for the misinformation, the restuarant was named after Leon Wilkeson who was the bass player in the Lynard Skynard band. It was run by his nephew Mitch Simmons, Leon's son Lee and daughter Marlen Wilkeson also worked there. I don't know how long ago they worked there or when they sold it, only how it got its name.

That Bass player's nickname was Neon Leon. and he always wanted to own a cajun Restaurant, and his relatives made it happen.
