Man o Man I couldnt win for loosing today.  Went to my normal place to get oil and a filter......WAL MART....and they only had 2 qts of my usual (Castrol Syntec)  So I looked around, only 1 qt of mobile 1.  None of the WAL MART brand synthetic.......I almost walked out empty handed until I noticed a 5qt jug of Mobil 1 full synth 10-40 with nothing in the lower part of the spec ring......and it was cheaper than 4qts of the Castrol wudda been.  So, I found a old 1qt bottle and filled it from the 5qt jug so now I had 4qts.  Just think, I only have to do that 3 more times and I get a free oil change.

First ride today on the Mobil 1.  Also just beat the rain, so it worked out good.  Engine sounded great, shifts nice and smooth, everything was fine.  Then I put the bike up and noticed the smell.  Mobil 1 smells really good...the whole family room is smelling great right now.  I know thats not what we look for in an oil, but its certainly not a bad thing

I use the Mobil One motorcycle oil, 20-50.  All the area Autozones carry it.

I have been to the Holiday Campground bike ralley a couple of times on General Booth Blvd. in Va Bch. I missed last year as I was on the road with the Valk visiting my son in Ft Liquor Dale Fla.....The last time I attended, I had on my jacket with the large VRCC patch on the back and the small patch on the left front pocket. The police approached me and asked me to remove my jacket as it is not appropriate to display the  'Colors of my club"   I said " Hey.. for christ sakes mon...I'm fu%#!ng 70 yrs old..unarmed and belong to this VRCC gentlemens/womens Valk group"  The fuzzballs made me take my "colors" off anyway... Cheesy

Great meet...hope to see Valkers there next May......Skeet

Hi, I'm sure this has been discussed before but I'll ask anyway...

My Valkyrie owner's manual says DON'T USE API SERVICE SJ "ENERGY CONSERVING" oil because it might affect lubrication and clutch performance?  I was thinking about using automotive MOBIL-1 10W40 for my Valkyrie but, woe is me, it's "ENERGY CONSERVING".  The manual also states don't use oil with molybdenum additives.  I was also considering Red Line motorcycle oil but, woe is me, it contains a little bit of molybdenum!

Through my research I found this website that discredits manufacturer's, like Honda's, motorcycle oil claims that the more expensive motorcycle lubricants are better engineered and thus more expensive than automotive lubricants...

www.nightrider.com/biketech/oiltest1.htm

Heck... that big 6-cylinder Valkyrie engine might as well be a car engine anyway!

So... are any of you using Mobil-1 auto oil or Red Line MC oil in your Valkyries?

Thanks,

I usually keep one or two gals of Shell Rotella T6 (5-40) on hand (every 5K on both ISs), but last change I only had 2 quarts..... and leftover quarts of Golden Spectro bike syn (10-40), and Amzoil bike syn (10-40), so that's what I used.    Smiley

Which reminds me.

Chris, Wal Mart was good to me back in March.  On the closeout shelf was Castrol 4T Synthetic Motorcycle Oil, 10W-40.  $5 a quart.  I bought 8, and should have bought 24.  Everything works great with it.  Would I buy that product again at $9.50 a quart?  I don't know.

One of my young co-workers was going to the motorcycle mechanics school in Orlando.  He told me Castrol is garbage.  Everything except Royal Purple is, too.  He's probably the guy that bought the remainder of that Castrol.
Sounds like he's been drinking the koolaid.

I tried Mobil 1 and E-3 plugs at the same time. Bike ran odd. Got rid of both at 1k and all was good. I like the Shell stuff.

I went up to a city next county up today to do a little running. Needed oil/filter for Kits truck. I was thinking our local Auto Zone was $15.99 for both. Went by O Rielieys and it was $14.99. Sweet. Had to hit the farm store which had a Adv Auto next door. $13.99. Awesome! Bought some Castrol in a 5.1 quart jug.  Shocked Never seen that before.  Undecided Left the farm store and a Auto Zone acrossed the street had the combo for $12.99. Nice.  tickedoff

FSTSIX.....I missed the Holiday  Campground event in Va Bch this year.  I've been to BoneShakers a few times .  My black Valk is a "98 standard with the leather like bags and all the rest.  It has the tripple exhaust add ons .  If I'm lucky,  I'll turn 100K this year.  It rested too much the last couple of years for unforseen stuff..

Many of my local Valkyrie riding friends use Mobil-1 15w50 Gray Cap. All ride hard, no problems reported here. They convinced me to switch from the expensive $$Amsoil$$ and I did with no regrets. Although come to think of it, folks get pretty passionate about their oil brands and viscosity. I have never heard of a Valkyrie with an oil related engine problem or failure. For your sake and your pocketbook, I hope the oil is your problem cooldude. That would make a quick and easy fix for you. Please keep us posted as to your results?

Just a brief update, at a little under 105,000 miles my clutch has started slipping. I'm not ready to change oils though, been using Mobil 1 15w50 since nearly the beginning, and I ride her HARD, and there's a LOT of me to be lugging around. IMHO a clutch replacement after 100,000 hard miles is reasonable.
