This fellow had part of his wrist blown off in Vietnam and had gotten to the point that he couldn't operate the clutch. Thanks to the help of a friend, his bike was modified so he could continue riding. It had 117,000 miles on it and was triked at 92,000 mile.


The knob on the shifter is a chromed grenade. Notice no clutch lever on the handle bars. The foot clutch was put together with parts from a salvage yard. The master cylinder is off a crotch rocket.

Cool setup.  A question though... that is a reincarnation of the suicide clutch... put your foot down and 'oops'.
 
Any reason that the shift lever wasn't used as a clutch lever, retaining the standard foot gear shifter?

It was similar to a suicide clutch. But being a trike it shouldn't be a problem.

I am guessing they had to find something that would work with the master cylinder that they used. He said they tried a couple different cylinders till they found one with enough capacity to actuate the clutch.

I think I would of gone with an air shifter like they use on Drag Bikes.

Also, seems as I remember a Red/White Valk on this site with a Jockey Shifter as you call it.

I'm not sure I'm coordinated enough to reach down to my knee to shift. I would like ot try sometime.
Shifter knobs look cool, but I have never tried one.
Do you have pics of the rest of the Valk trike with the grenade knob?

No, sorry. I just snapped a pic of the shifter. Was kind of in a hurry as the ride I was on was getting ready to leave out again.
