We purchased a vespa recently, primarily for my wife... but I have to admit, it is an absolute blast to ride.  I've ridden both in one time and one right after the other and what a mix.  And what FUN!  Anyway, the vespa-ites have their own "board" and I found this tonight... made me laugh...

When I had my 250 GTS with the J. Costa I smoked a very loud, very custom Harley from 0 to 80 km/h (indicated) at 4 stop lights in a row. We got into this little race as I totally lost him in some twisties a few kilometers before that. He was Piiiiiissed!! At the third light while waiting for it to change I pointed at the Vespa and said "250" (in my best Yoda voice: "unimpressed he was"). It wasn't that the GTS was faster than the bike but the take off was so seamless and with no gears to shift I left him behind trying to get his power to the ground. I have to admit that in the bendy part of the road where I first passed him he really had no chance what so ever of keeping up with me. He tried but was drifting so wide in the corners he couldn't keep the pace. Maybe he wasn't that good a rider, I don't know.

I posted back... it had nothing to do with the rider, it's the bike!  Smiley

Hehehe... The spousal unit's 2nd bike was a Honda Silverwing... 600cc scooter...

It'd take most stock Harley's off the line or on the freeway... She'd go out Harley Hunting on it sometimes...

She had big fluffy cat ears on her helmet, and (Her words!) the big bad Harley guys HATED it when "The fat chick with fluffy cat ears smoked 'em on a scooter"

Miss that bike, it was a blast, just 'cause it LOOKED so unassuming...

KLR's like hunting H-D's in the twisties.  Grin

Not so good in a straight line drag.  Sad

One of my friends at work has bought a Vespa. She has a sticker that reads, "It's not a Scooter Club its a Scooter Cult."

If we keep this thread going, we will really start to piss off some HD riders.

OK, time for a group hug,...and play nice kiddies.

The Vespa probably didn't have 100 extra pounds of chrome hanging on it. The Vespa can probably lean farther (wouldn't take much). Seriously, I doubt any Vespa can outrun any Harley, anywhere; but what do I know?? Shut up and ride, I say.
