Ok so I am new to the F6.
I bought a 97 tourer  with 47k on it and had the carbs rebuilt. I was running good, very fun bike to ride.
Being who I am I thought I would start fresh and change the plugs and do a oil change.
I bought the proper plugs, pulled them one at a time blowing out the cavity before pulling and replacing each plug.
I hand tighten and then turned 1/2 turn to seat them.
so here is where it went wrong. The bike is now missing and running like crap, I checked the caps to make sure the where seated all the way still crap.
I then reinstalled the old pugs...no better..
what's up? what did I do wrong?

May have a cracked or damaged plug cap that didn't show until you disturbed them. I'd pull each one separately and check for spark. They have a ceramic type resistor inside that cap.

And, since they fire in pairs, if you pull one and the misfire doesn't change much, it could be either of two, but at least you've found the coil responsible.

Ya, would be cool but unfortunately new spark plugs won't make a Valkyrie run without gas.  Too funny

I replaced the plugs in my I/S at 18,000 miles and they looked new.
When I picked up my Std, it had 39,000 miles.  Changed plugs and they looked new also.
Both bikes have about 60,000 miles on them.  Don't think I will worry about plugs for a few years yet.

The out of gas story is funny.  Glad it was that simple and you found it right away.  Wink

So...tell us.  How did the "old" plugs look?

Was that on the highway going 95 MPH?  That's the only time I got that kind of mileage. Smiley

If not riding at the speed of light maybe you need to now check the petcock for a faulty diaphragm?
