Now that we have a young (five months old now) dog, I do
a lot of walking in the woods... you never know what you'll
see down there, deer, a fresh half-eaten squirrel (we hear
coyotes down there at night, but I guess a lot of things
might eat a squirrel)... today at the deep part of the creek
there were these ducks. They didn't care a whit that me and
the dog were there, though the dog got a little exited  Wink ...

What kind are they? Why didn't they run away? Are they delicious?

For the life of me, I can't remember the type of ducks those are but, they are domesticated.   Most likely the reason they weren't scared of you and the dog.   Their name starts with an M I think.   What ever you do, don't feed them, once they recognize you as a food source, they might follow you home.

IMO, not much worse than duck poo.   Those little crappers used to wait just outside where they knew the duck feed was and would crap all over the concrete.   Nasty, slick stuff.   Got my butt chewed out more than once for not wiping my feet when I stepped into the house.   Roll Eyes

Mike:
Those are Muscovy ducks.
We got them around here. I see them on the Mighty Huron River when I walk Grizwald.

Muscovy drakes will gang bang a duck.

Mallards will do the same, but a Muscovy never flew away with Tony Soprano's penis...

I hit the Muscovy wiki page with a "brown and white duck red face"
google search before I posted, thanks for the verification  cooldude ...

And Bentley thanks you for the complement, Fred...

We've got a way worked up for her to be left in one room of the
house that has a dog door out to a fenced in yard. She didn't
even tear up anything or pee in the house the last two times
she was left alone.

Mike, Gig is correct those are Muscovy ducks, what you have there are two males and one female....they were orginally know as wood ducks but are pretty much domestic ducks now, they are also known as quack less ducks they hiss and pant and wag their ducks when pissed off.....they probably wandered off and are hanging out in the woods now....I use to have a few of them many years ago.  The females pretty much run the show, I remember when they had eggs the female would make the male sit on them while she took a break.. Grin good find.. cooldude
