.Blown fuse after changing ignition switch?

My husbands ignition switch key hole broke in the 20 degree weather last Sunday...on his '98 Tourer.
He's attempting to replace the whole mechanism with a new one. He's got it replaced but now has no power at all. No lights, horn, nothing. He opened up the right side casing and is looking at the fuses. He can't figure what to do next.
Ideas??? Before he opens up and steals parts from my '98!

Did he check the main fuse, the strip. There is a spare next to it.

Referring to the 55A dog bone flat fuse, behind the R side cover, off of the power lead from the battery. Open the cover, test with a meter is you don't see a break. There is a spare inside.

It is a Honda fuse, which you can get for a reasonable price from an Auto Parts store, but you might need the year/model to get one.

Like Bone said, there is a fuse with the starter solenoid behind the right side cover. Get a 12 volt test light (they are cheap) at any automotive store, start checking at the battery and follow the wires to the switch, make sure you have battery voltage. Then check the battery ground to the frame. Should be able to find where the battery voltage stops, if not let us know.

Checked the main fuse it is good No problem. The fuse In between the little fuse box, and that main bus box. It has two leads on the top. Says fuse in red plastic. Does anyone know what it is.? The Honda dealer thinks it is part of the wiring harness. No part number. Their bright idea is they think it is the ignition modulator that is dead, and not a fuse. Or the wiring harness itself.

#12 is the main fuse assembly.  That's what you say is good?

Have you checked the battery for charge and cables for being connected right?

What you need is a volt meter and a shop manual and to go through all the wiring starting at the battery.

It's possible the new ignition switch is defective, but I doubt that.  You can check it with a volt meter.

Also, try unplugging the new ignition and check the male and female connections making sure one isn't messed up or  corroded.

See if a  neighbor will take in YOUR bike, so it doesn't get violated

"says fuse in red plastic", that is the starter relay and the red plug has 3 spade connections well known for failing, look for melting on the red plug or heavy corrosion on the spade contacts.

It seems to me there was a similar post 3 or 4 years ago. Replaced switch guts and nothing worked. It may have even been farther back. A search ought to reveal the thread.
