Only 80 km with this Pirelli (120/70/9) on the front but it looks like it's the best tire I know on cold and wet roads

Only 40 mls you havent even scrubbed off the oily coating, let us know how you like it. I have to change the front tire I got about 14k out of it and have a Michelin waiting in the wings. But maybe for the next I will by the Pirelli and give it a try. I have no complaints with the Michelin but it wouldn't hurt to try something else. How is the handling in comparison to the Mich?

You are right Robert (as usual ) but the truth is that I feel quite safe with this Pirelli on. My Roadtec 01 on the back has only 10 000 km (last august) and has now a flat profile, I guess that next summer I'll have a Scorpion Trail II on the back to see what really happens.

Please keep posting about this as I know you ride everyday with all kinds of weather. Your experience and time in the saddle is greatly appreciated. You have me looking at a tire to maybe buy, that in a car tire I wouldn't give it the time of day.

I have just returned from a 3000 mile january trip ( colorado to california and back) through rain, some snow showers, sun, interstate, twisties, gravel road, ect. on pirelli scorpion trail 2s. They wear very well, great in the wet, and as i mentioned in another post. The front tire works better on the valk than the michillin pilot rd 4. Would post pictures .... but it's tooooo hard for silly analog me!

Could you post why you like it better than the Michelin?

Yes Robert. I find the michelin front tire gives the bike a front end wobble when pushing 80 mph sweepers through the mountains on dry rds. ( just like a track rain tire does). I had the same issue running that front tire on my 2010 Honda vfr. The trail 2 is better than the michelin on dry rds, and just as good or better in the wet.

How are you liking the tire compared to the Michelin? I changed my front out and need to buy another one to have in the wings. I was considering the Pirelli that you mentioned but would like some feed back on how you like it.

Robert, my front Scorpion Trail II is now 5,500 km old and still perfect. The Metzeler Roadtec 01 on the rear wheel is OK but has slipped three times (on dry roads !!), twice on small bumps, once in a twist (perhaps the tire was not warm enough ?). With the Pirelli, I feel confident on wet roads, especially when braking, fantastic grip ! To be honest, I have never been as confident on wet roads with the Michelin PR4 as I am now with the Pirelli because I thought the PR4 could slip all of a sudden in a twist, though it never happened.

Yes, many have said good things about the Pirelli and wanted to hear your input. I know you ride in all weather, everyday so if anyone is going to have a problem with a tire it would be you. I like the michelin but may try the Pirelli Thanks. I will be interested to hear how many miles you get from the tire.

https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/pirelli-scorpion-trail-ii-dual-sport-tiresThe rear tire is available in our size so essentially its a matched set. I have seen a gt version of the rear to handle extra loads but no one seems to carry it.

I could probably go for the Michelin in the rear and the pirelli up front. I like the idea of the extra support for the GT tire even though the load rating is the same. The rear I have never had the slightest idea to replace I really like the Michelin. The front I may just go ahead and order the Pirelli.
Dragon any experience or views on the GT vs a regular tire? I always like real world experience rather than books.

Hey Robert, The only real experience I can say regarding the Michelins is in the GT. The first set of Michelins I ran I put the 180/55 on the back along with the trail 4 on the front and handling improved as I would have suspected. Not only was i placing a narrower tire on the front, but the rear tire versus the stock Dunlop was probably 1/4 to a 1/2" narrower which resulted in increased steering response. hen that tire was done on the back I replaced it with the 190/55-17 which is more consistent with the stock rear Dunlops width. Again I received basically what I expected and that was the turn in requires a little more than the stock size Michelins, but still faster than the Dunlops. I have never gotten mileage comparable to other riders due to a heavy right hand and my appetite for the twisties. I got about 4K out of the Dunlop rear before replacing with the set of Michelins ( i prefer a matched tire set ). I only got another 4K out of the 180/55 PR4GT and probably pulled the front trail around 7k for a new one since I was taking the bike on this trip. I am thinking if I do not try the Scorpions on this next go around I may try just a normal PR4 and see if it is worth my extra dollars to pay for the GT or not.

This is the idea really, the comparison between the PR4 and the PR4GT. Price really is not the factor for me, its more like, I was wondering about the handling and the ride. If you do it I will be interested to hear what you have to say since the GT should be more precise on the handling and a somewhat firmer ride.

What version of the 120/70ZR19 are you using? According to Pirelli's website they actually make 2, one optimized for the Multistrada and the other optimized for the KTM Super Adventure 1290. Seems like Revzilla isn't nice enough to tell you. Also, according to the web site https://www.pirelli.com/asset/index.php?idelement=89467there is only one version of the 180/55ZR17 rear, with a 73 load class. Are you sure about the GT thing?

They make 3 for the front and the only one I have seen listed on anyone's site is the non brand specific one. As for the rear the Angel GT and in the Trail 2 both have extra strong sidewalls just not in our sizes. I must have been look at the 150/70/17 Thanks for the site. Just looking at the part # for the Pirelli and it does not match listing in Revzilla. The tire is a 2526400 Pirelli has it in the catalog as a 2802800 but its pretty safe to assume its the same tire as the non branded although the speed rating is stepped up from a V to W. Pirelli has an app that looks pretty cool for phones, I may give it a try. Lean angle, speed, roads, altitude. Also at the end of the catalog that you posted its got specific tire information.
