I know that everyone likes to stop and have a brew no and then while riding, or having a margarita with a meal while you are out on a ride, but be carefull guys and girls.   In the news here in Conroe Texas this morning in a case where a 56 yr old man was over the legal limit ( which I think is just 2 beers) had a wreck and killed his girlfriend passenger he was sentenced to 10 yrs in prison.    Your life can change in a heartbeat when alcohol is involved.  At 59 yrs old I've quit drinking and driving anything altogether, still have a beer or two in the evenings at home or will have a drink with a meal while on the road if the wife will drive from there.     Have a good day.

I hate to sound picky, but be careful with that "everyone". That's like saying "never" or
"always". I've not had any "ignorant oil" since the mid 90's. Sorry to hear the girl got killed.
10 years is a long time to think about it.

We toured together on the Valk for over 10 years and 88,000 miles and always followed our rule, "No alcohol until the bike is parked for the rest of the day."

At the end of every day, we always celebrated our ride with wine.

To sentence a man to 10 years in prison is extreme in my opinion, would I be devastated if that was my daughter sure, but you cant fix stupid and how is it that other DUI incidents when the person killed someone and was driving a car that they dont get 10 years in prison? I have seen some get off with next to nothing. If you go to prison for 4 years you will pretty much loose everything you have and anyone that cares plus have to rebuild your life. Not to mention you wont be institutionalized so you may have a chance at still having a life. I would never condone what this guy did and if it was his girlfriend then he will have to live with that shame for the rest of his life. As for drinking I dont at most the occasional glass of wine, I have seen alcohol destroy to many lives and for myself haven't really found a plus to drinking but quite a few negatives.

10 yrs seems a bit much to me too.   however, I don't know what prior arrests he may have had.

It's a lot better than the life sentence that the girl got out of the deal, if you ask me.

There is no place for booze around a bike if you ask me....

I drink seldom, but I won't touch anything until my bike is parked for the evening if I do drink.

Well? You asked! Ride Sober & Safely!

I've heard folks say, "Drink and ride is like suicide. Take a passenger, it's like murder".
I try to do my occasional stupid stuff where no one else has a chance to get hurt/arrested/painted/etc.

I have a unique drinking habit. Every time I see my buddy Des from Ultimate Seats, I pop the cap on one of his funny foreign brewskis! I see him once, maybe twice a year. This year I chugged one with oZ and Des in Frisco,Co.
One beer and I got a buzz, geesh, it ain't like the old days!! Undecided

Sign me up for biting my tounge on this one. My comments would be too harsh. Drunk driving sucks no matter what the wheels used where.

Agreed. I drink a beer or two (at the most) if I'm in a cage, but behind handlebars... no way. You gotta be an idiot to drunk ride.

In Jacksonville a few years ago they set out to show how dangerous drinking and riding was. They set up a course in a parking lot and had volunteers run the course sober, then after one drink, then after two.
It back fired on them. The riders actually got better at running the course after a few drinks. So they had to explain that the couple of drinks made them more relaxed, and lowered the fear factor, not actually made them better riders.

I do know that a bike will wheelie much easier after a few beers.  Evil
