I'm thinking of doing the SuperValk conversion to my I/S this winter and looking at pricing/getting some parts now.  Is there another model taillight that will work on the Valk besides the stock taillight?  I thought I had read somewhere that some other Honda models would work, like the ACE 750 taillight.  Anyone know I'm remembering correctly?  Anyone know a website that lists the different models that will fit, if any?  TIA

Dave, several other Hondas have tail light LENSES that are identical to the Valk (I think the 1100 Shadow ACE, Sabre, maybe one of the 750's), but the word is the mounting HARDWARE is not exactly drop-in to the VAlk fender cutout; I have read the hardware can be made to work, but it is not an exact fit.

I have a permanent supervalk that came with the taillight on it, but decided to add the Std/Tourer tail light to my full dress interstate under the trunk, and just ordered all the parts to do it. (about $130 give or take)

Here is a link with pics and parts list.  http://forums.delphiforums.com/valkyrie/messages?msg=11596.1

You could always call Pinwall Cycle and ask if they have a complete assembly in decent shape. (if it's cleaper enough to make it worth it)

I tried to go this route too, but looking at all the parts fiches I could find, none of the mounting systems looked the same. Light looked the same, mounting didn't.

I got a good deal on one from Pinwall using ebay. I bought a used wiring harness from them, too, though, and it was a mess. I would definitely recommend spending the $25 or so to get the wiring harnesses new from HDL.

Don't buy anyhting other than a Valk light, everything else is really NOT the same. Close but not the same. The mounts are totally different and not worth the trouble for a quality looking Valk.

Used or new stock parts are not that expensive.

Thanks for the help, guys.  I'll definitely only get a Valk light.  Jess, tell me a little bit more about that one wire that didn't hook-up with the wiring harness and what you did with it.

You definitely want to get  a Valkyrie tail light with the wires complete, not cut.  it's a simple chore then to plug them in to the correct connectors from where you disconnected the trunk brake lights.

I don't remember all the details but with a continuity tester (light bulb) it was not a problem.

Dave, I haven't actually done this job yet.  My SuperValk came completed, and I haven't attempted the install on my IS yet.

It looks like Theo posted a pic to answer the question.  It is my understanding that the one wire at issue is the brake/stop light hookup.... going to the right sidecover.  The difference for me is that I am not SuperValking the IS; the trunk will stay on that bike.

What I need to know is if you can remove the lower fender half (for the install) without having to take other stuff apart?

Taking off the back half of the fender was all that was necessary for the install, but I already had the trunk off, so I don't know how easy/hard it will be to pull that fender half off while leaving the trunk on.

All of the wires are in the same spot behind the right sidecover. You'll be led right to them when you remove the I/S rear harness.

I also don't know if all the brake lights will work fine running off that one red/green wire. Other guys who run both the trunk and the light could chime in.
