Please post or re-post all the different windshields you have tried and what worked and what did not work. Maybe this could be the ideas thread.
I will post later with thoughts with pictures. I am hoping this is the help page for windshields. Maybe this is the largest bone of contention we have???
Seats and h-bars a close second? ???

I think the OEM screen is awesome, but I had to cut it down and hook it to different handlebars before I felt that way about it... -Mike

Two sets of Memphis shades, I didn't want it to be floppy. The shield angle and stuff is very (infinitely?) adjustable.

My first windshield was the Memphis Shades Hellcat. I found it too small. I then found a generic ATV windshield that I cut to my own dimensions. I used it for a year and decided that I wanted something taller and not as wide. So, I bought a 33" windshield for a full wing and made my own design. The problem was that the sides would move a lot when driving, so I cut the sides down. This is where I am now. I have not been able to try this version, because winter set in that night. I suspect it will be fine. If not, I will get another 33" shield and try a different design. As for the hardware, I use the Memphis Shades hardware as well as the hardware I got with the ATV windshield.

I tried the Gustafsson 15" and for me it was appalling. For my build there was extreme buffeting and noise. Vision blurred buffeting. I ended up using the OEM Boulevard screen + a cheap little spoiler that made it perfect for me. The air flow gets directed to my neck with high speed air and no buffeting on my helmet. Exactly what I was after. For me it was nasty without that little wing though and would have ended up in the trash without it.

I cut the Honda Tall screen 5 inches and attached an X-creen spoiler to the top which is still below the stock screen. Also I spaced the stock screen 3/4 inch at the base. Mostly clear at 80 mph but not behind someone as they disturb the wind. The best I have tested. You have to put the X-creen vertical for the best results. I love this bike. I can't believe Honda didn't sell a million of these.

I have not tried anything yet but I have a Madstad on the way that I was able to grab for a song. It is made for a Yamaha FZ-09 and comes with both a fly screen and a touring screen that quick change onto a bracket which stays put. Hoping that I can rig it to a combination on the bars and possibly the meter surround. Should be here end of the week and then I can start to tinkering.

(I clean it regurlaly)
If you don't already clean it exclusively with a microfiber cloth and water using only up and down strokes (no swirly-whirlys), try that with the next one...

I always used Honda (now Original) spray wax on my shields. Spray on, let sit for 15 to 30 seconds, wipe off with microfiber cloth. Softens and dissolves bug splats and leaves a slight wax film (of course) which aids water repellentcy. I like it

Looking at Jerry's and Ledany's Sedcam windshields. I noticed that the bottom of the windshields are attached to the forks. I decided to make some brackets and do the same to my new windshield. It now looks much better and it also transfers wind pressure to the forks instead of it all being on the handlebars. Thanks for the idea guys. It also cleans up my handlebars by eliminating a set of windshield brackets.

To the wimpy plastic tube covering the forks, actually. Numerous ones of y'all are doing it, so I guess it seems to be working...

This is my shield, off my 2009 Kawasaki C-14. Little snip here, little snip there, works good. I get the best results when I leave about a 1 inch gap between the gauge cover and shield. It lets the air flow under, helping reduce turbulence off top. (I'm 5'-10")

I feel it fits the looks and shape of the bike really well. Makes the sail panels look beefier more Bad A$$ for lack of a better way to say it.

It does feel very stout to me and I understand what you are saying, I have contemplated slipping a heavy duty hoop clamp to the fork tube behind the plastic covers for a solid mount and it is still on my mind. something LIKE the link http://www.ebay.com/bhp/49mm-clamp

Mike, Behind that plastic fork covering is a metal bracket attached to the forks. That is what you are screwing into, not just plastic.

Did you have to install a metal clamp or is the factory screw already attached to a metal clamp?

It was over a year ago but I remember a small thin clamp factory installed so the plastic cover can bolt to. It is a small clamp and bolt maybe M5? I don't remember. Maybe buy a heavy duty clamp for a windshield (I believe our forks are 45mm) that could be slipped in there would hold the bottom bracket and the plastic cover at the same time???? However I have had mine as I said well over a year and hit 123 to 125mph a few times and with a bigger than most windshield. It feels solid and because of that I am good.

I have the OEM tall windshield. I ordered it with the bike Dec 2012 and had to wait for it and the saddlebags to arrive. I think the Windshield must have been an afterthought from Honda. After designing a powerful and Sexy machine , the Windshield in stock position did not work properly and looked worse than it worked. I acquired some brackets to move the bottom of the Windshield out approximately 1 1/4" . Now it matched the Angle of the Forks but it was to high off the Headlight shell. So using a flexible 18" ruler with a grease pencil i proceeded to draw lines until i was sure the new holes would hold the Windshield square to the bike and low enough to just put my finger between it and the headlight cover. Job Done! I'm 5 10" and the height is perfect. I can easily see over it or duck down a bit if the rain is too intense.

Is there a "batwing" style windshield on the market for this bike? I have a Memphis Shades Malibu windshield mounted on my Valkyrie. It is the 'solar' tint. It is shaped 'batwing'-ish. I would post a pic but my Photobucket account quit working a couple of months back and that was the only way I had of posting pics on forums. I will probably make a few cuts on it to change the shape a bit but it works and looks fine to me. The Memphis Shades Bladerunner shield is also batwing-ish in appearance and could be made to work just like the Malibu. Anyway, thought I would throw that out there. John

SSer!
Hey SSer, I replied to your PM message but when I clicked the 'SEND' button it disappeared and I don't know how to verify if it went to you or not. In case it didn't, I will just post up the body of the message here and hope that you see it. John Hey SSer, The Malibu and Bladerunner windshields are 'universal' shields. I found mine on Ebay for $75 with free shipping. They usually cost a lot more than that. The bottom mounts that came with the shield were meant to be clamped to the fork tubes. The top mounts clamp to the handlebar. I already had another Memphis Shades mount kit from a previous bike project so I took the top mounts from it and used them in the lower holes in the shield to mount/clamp them to the handlebars also. Solid as a rock and doesn't look bad (to me) you just have 4 clamps on the handlebar now instead of 2. Some type of flat stock could be fabricated to attach the bottom holes to the side screws on the fork covers if a person wanted to do that. If you would like, I could send you some pics through email. I am unable to attach pics to post in this forum for some reason. My email is cyclejohn50@yahoo.comRegards, John

So, I just read through the thread and it seems the only drop-in windshields that at least some people are happy with are the Memphis Shades Malibu and the Givi A660 17x17,2?

Nope, my french Secdem is fine and not expensive. I didn't include it because you said this: I used the bottom brackets that came with it, they are a flat metal with a compound bend that is fork mounted, this has worked well however I was not satisfied with the top hardware and bought a bracket set on eBay and used some parts of it that has worked very well. You think it would work okay without buying some extra hardware?

Jerry said this, I didn't ! Jerry is a full black madman , I'm not Secdem is OK, costs about 200 $, is not too small nor too big, you can adjust the height, it protects you enough and has a fine design IMHO.

This is on my 2014 Valkyrie now: This is a heavily-modified windshield from a standard Goldwing. When I first bought my Valkyrie I tried Honda's Tall Touring Windshield - absolutely too much turbulence no matter how I adjusted it. My dealer sold me the above windshield at a discount so I could "try something else." I modified it and mounted it on the Honda Touring Windshield hardware (handlebar mount). I would rate the above windshield a D+. It provides pretty good protection at speeds up to about 50MPH. Above 50 the turbulence becomes very tiring. The turbulence prompted me to begin to build my own fairing. Bill
