Got the new parts and they are installed.  Everything is new from the engine shaft back.  The U joint was in great condition.  But I went and replaced it anyway.  All parts greased and working great.  I just have to get it off the jack, clean the bike up, and take it for a test ride.
Now that I know better, I will know this time to keep the splines greased like I should have been doing all along.  I really hate learning stuff the hard way.   Sad
She will be ready to go for the Fall Color Ride.

Glad you're on track Robert... I'm in West Virginia, my bike is not back together yet, but
Monday and Tuesday is Fall Break at Clemson, I plan to finish up those two days, and
be at Robbinsville Friday afternoon...

Glad to hear you are up and running again. I must have missed a post or two - so it was the spline that caused your breakdown? Completely stripped out or what?  ???

See you next week.  cooldude

Yep that was the problem.  The splines were "grating past one another like rubbing a washboard".  I put the new parts on, kicked her over and she is ready to hop off the jack stand and haul a$$.

See ya in Robbinsville.  Looking forward to seeing everybody there.
