We had a new Trane heating and AC system installed about 4-5 yrs ago and they installed a CAP 100 Filter unit into the system.....it uses a large 5"x 20"x 25" filter along with the normal 1" filters in most systems.....

I had been ordering one of the large filters directly from Abatement Technologies, but they no longer sell to private homeowners... Angry....they told me to go through the installer...the last time I asked them, they wanted to install it if they sold me one almost doubling the price.......I can do that myself, it takes less than 5 mins to do it once I have the filter.....the filter cost me about $48 + S&H last year....

My question is if any of you guys out there have one of these you could sell me??.....it's silly for me to pay twice the $$ for such an easy replacement job.....Here's a link to what unit I have....I don't have the UV light.....so, I don't need that piece....Thanks

Find a local HVAC supply house.  They should be able to sell you one for half that.  We sell them for $26.44 including tax but freight would kill you.

You might try Atlanta Supply.  I think they have free freight and the cost would be less than $30.

A quick google search turned up these possibilities.

Maybe you'll have some luck ordering from one of them?

Stanley, I have the same size filter in a Carrier electronic air cleaner for my furnace.  The distributor charges $50-$60 bucks for a replacement but the local Home Depot sells the same size (I don't know about the specs) for far less.

I'm not an HVAC guy.  Based on a recommendation a few years ago, I went with a high tech super duper filter.  End result was; not enough air flow to the heater unit.  Ran for months in an overheated mode due to lack of air.  Burned up some pricey parts.  I now use the buck-apiece filter from the local hardware store.  Change monthly.  Six or seven bucks per year.  Works for me.  Ymmv,

Sheets, that is a very important aspect of HVAC.  A system is designed for certain airflow.  When the airflow is impeded, problems occur.  That isn't something advertisers tell you in large print. (Also, many folks don't ever change air filters and cause problems due to impeded airflow.)  I was once told, "Better air filters block more air particles.  A sheet of plywood will stop everything."  If you are running a standard system, a Merv of 7-9 is fine.  If you have allergies, you may want a better filter but the system has to be designed to handle it.
