Been looking really hard at the Ruger AR-5.56 M4 Flat Top. (shoots the 5.56 NATO or 223 ammo)
Seeing as I have a shooting alley thru the trees that goes 100yds beyond the back lawn,
thinking of hanging frozen bottles of water from tree limbs and testing my eye sight.
Just have to slide this purchase under the radar of the financial advisor, then I'll be good to go.

My neighbor is a dealer, builder and class III to boot. He specializes in building AR's.  Here is his deal, plain AR, all parts are made in USA. He mounts barrel, checks for proper fit, spacing, and square. Tax, paperwork, out the door, $600.00  I thought that was a good deal. Very tight, no slop AR and all American to boot.  He builds a lot of rifles, from plain jane to competition class. Works out of his home shop.  Talk about being tempted to get another AR.... Wink

That's a hell'uva neighbor to have Jimmy....
I'm looking at an entry level rifle, dependable, reliable, and enjoyable to shoot.
I can't imaging a 30 shot magazine.....Will probably need a few spares !!!
I explained to Laurel I was buying myself an early birthday present.
She asked, "why?"  I told her, "it is on sale."  End of conversation.
Figured I'm only turning 60 once, might as well have some fun.
She got a RoadGlide when she turned 50.....so I'm under that price tag !!!!

I have a Windham Weaponry AR that I bought just before the ban here in CT.  Made in Maine Smiley  Former Bushmaster people before Bushmaster was sold.  I don't get enough chance to get out and shoot it however Sad   The neighbors are about 100 yards away and they won't appreciate it I don't think  Cheesy

I just ordered the Ruger AR556 an hour ago Brett.  Local one man firearms dealer is where
I do most of my purchasing. He's trying to support himself and his wife, and is struggling
against the military stores.
From all the forums and emails I'm taking into consideration, this Ruger
is highly recommended.  Now just have to wait for the snow to settle
so I can get to the back lawn comfortably and empty a few mags.
All the neighbors here shoot at all hours of day and night. It's an eerie
feeling when you don't hear someone shooting.

You going to stick with irons sights, or want to add an optic of some type?

I'll see how my eyes adjust to the iron sights first.....
