I have my tank off and the oem valve out of the tank, but when I attempted to insert the pingle tube into the tank, the opening seems to be too small. Does the plastic insert inside the tank opening need to be removed? Also does the o-ring on the tank opening need to be removed? Please respond asap.

Yes that plastic insert is the old fuel filter. Remove it and you don't need any orings

Since your new one won't go in, then I take it that there is already a screen on it, and you are trying to place that screen inside the old screen which did not come out of the tank when you removed the old petcock.
It will only fit one.

Thanks Chrisj and Gordonv, you were both correct. I got the old screen out and the new one slipped right in. Everything is back together and I do not see any leaks as of yet. I do have one, hopefully last, question. The small tubing at the very back of the tank, just behind where the valve screws into the tank, I suppose that is just a venting hose. Is that correct? Once again, thank you guys for all the help.

Correct, it's a tank vent. There should be a small hose that connects to it and runs to the bottom of the bike.

And make sure you have a "T" in the line.

And make sure you have a "T" in the line. And point the opening of the T in an uphill angle, or attach a short tube in an uphill slant.

Good question meathead, and one I had too. Why uphill? The object of the T is to allow the tank to vent even if you are riding in the rain and water gets up into the lower hose. Not sure what an upward angle would do...a vent is a vent. It just needs open air.

I have a bunch of those generic vacuum connectors. Next time I remove the tank, maybe I'll replace the T with a Y.

From time to time guys would post that with a full tank in hot weather they'd come out to find a puddle of gas under the bike and the question was always why? I've been hanging out here for only 8 months but I don't recall ever seeing that being an issue on a Valk. Do the Valks also dump fuel down the vent line if you over fill them in hot weather?

Oh baby will they ! I used to work about 45 miles away. One day I figured I save myself some time and fill up at lunch instead of on the way home. It was about 110* and I'm sitting in McDonalds enjoying my ice cream cone when people started coming in panicked about something. Finally I realized they were talking about MY MOTORCYCLE ! I went out to gas shooting out the vent hose. Rolled her back away and started her up hoping for the best. Luckily nothing bad happened, but I never did that again. One good thing though, everybody gave me plenty of room in the parking lot after that.
