Author Topic: Did I prevent myself from switching seats in the future?  (Read 1728 times)

While doing my This Is Not A SuperValk conversion, I routed the taillight wires though two underseat threaded holes in the fender that had been covered by stickers.  Thinking about it now, are these seat mounting holes for the Standard/Tourer seat?  I'm thinking about swapping the IS seat for a S/T seat so that I can more easily put a backrest on, but now I'm afraid I've run wires through the mounting holes I need.  Did I mess up?

Probably so if I understand what you did. I'd just pull those wires back through and run them along the right side of the fender and through a hole used by the other harness that goes through there.

I was going to do that, but the grommet was too tight to run three additional wires through.  Not going to do anything for now, but I'll keep in mind that I need to re-route things if I do swap seats.  Thanks!

I believe those holes are what the Ultimate King seat's backrest bolts into. Not sure what Honda intended them for originally.

Turns out not what or where,

Pretty sure Mother Honda used the same fenders for all years all models.

Drill another hole next to it only smaller to accommodate the extra wires you're running. Spray some paint in there to prevent rust then insert a rubber grommet before running the wires.

A trick I've used many times when running wires in tight places....spray some regular rubbing alcohol on the existing wires, really soak it. You'll find your extra wires might just slip through now. It's an old trick I learned many years ago....if you want to move rubber or plastic against anything, especially metal or some other rubber, use alcohol and it makes it slick as snot on a doorknob.  cooldude

The alcohol also evaporates and doesn't leave a sticky mess.

No they are for a 2 piece seat, passenger pillion. The ultimate backrest slides into a slot in the back of the drivers seat.

Not on all of them.  Ultimate King Boy back rest bolts in there.

You will need those holes for a rear two piece seat, regardless of brand.   Remove those wires and run them along the original wiring harness path, under the fender.    A stock 2000 Tourer seat set fits nicely on my Interstate and does use those two holes, as would any aftermarket two piece seat set and even the Utopia Rider Backrest..

i recently removed the trunk from my Interstate and noticed that I have no seat stay bracket to hold the back of my seat.  Where can I purchase that bracket and do I need to purchase a touring single or double seat?

The bracket is part of the fender and if you don't have one, it must have been removed.  It is not a part you can purchase and you'll most likely have to fab something yourself.

Tourer and Standard seats are two parts, rider and passenger.

The IS goes into a stay that is part of the trunk mount. With the trunk removed, no stay.

I believe you can change out to a std/tourer fender and use the one from there instead.

My I/S has both the stay in the trunk bracket and the stay on the fender.

I have to place the back of the seat in the back stay and push down on the seat to get the male part on the seat bottom into the stay on the fender.

Kind of a PITA.

Thanks all for the info.  Hook, can I get a photo of your fender and the bracket?

Go order the Std/Tourer taillight harness from Honda (both front and rear sections) then swap out the I/S harness and call it a day.

Works good; lasts long time and IS 'stock'.  Wink
