The last couple of weeks after the bike's been sitting for more then several hours I hear a knocking or lifter clanking type sound with a cold start from the right side [high side on stand]. Within 2 - 3 seconds it goes away. I assume once oil is circulating and pressure is up [oil lite is off].

75k miles
8k since valve adjustemnt.
15k since desmog
plugs are probably [over] due though
20k since ECT mod w/pot not on at startup
2000 miles on fresh oil/filter, level good

This is new to my baby and it's been consistent with every cold start the last few weeks. It happens with or without the enricher engaged.  Fall temps are in effect here. Any ideas? The only time I've heard it before was after a long winter storage.

OEM filter with Repsol 10w-40 blend.

Guess there's always potential of a defective filter.
It is the last thing I've done before the noise started shortly after.

Change it again, and see if that helps.

Check your exhaust bolts... Mine was making a "knocking" noise, asked my Honda Mechanic about it before I tore in and checked the valve clearance, told me to check how tight my exhaust bolts were, and that fixed it... until they loosened again. Now I'm on the long journey to get those suckers torqued down right!

Did you change brand of oil?

If so, next change go back to whatever you were using.
