A standard phillips screwdriver is a 37 degree working angle. A jis is a 45 degree working angle.
They will sorta work O K. If you do normal maintenance , the jis is worth the investment.

I have to correct myself. A JIS is a cross point configuration , while a phillips is made with a radius in the cross area. A jis will work on a phillips , but a phillips will slip out of a jis.
JIS is not 45 degrees.
Reed and Prince, also called Frearson, is another historic cross-head screw configuration. The cross in the screw head is sharper and less rounded than a
Phillips, and the bit has 45° flukes and a sharper, pointed end.
Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) cross-head screwdrivers are still another standard, often inaccurately referred to as Japanese Phillips. Compatible screw heads are usually identifiable by a single depressed dot or an "X" to one side of the cross slot. This is a screw standard throughout the Asia market and Japanese imports. The driver has a 57° point with a flat tip.
Phillips is not 37 degrees
Phillips driver has a 57° point and tapered, unsharp (rounded) flutes.
