 will the drive shaft from a 88 goldwing fit a 99 valkyrie I have one laying around and was keeping it for a spare just wondering if it will work.

Based on part numbers, they are different.  The only way to know for sure would be to set the two of them side by side and see if they are the same.

'88 goldwing: 40201-MT8-003
'97 valk:       40201-MZ0-000
'97 goldwing: 40201-MAM-A60

There is at least one year that the 1500 Wing used a "Valk" drive shaft, but I wouldnt expect them to have the same part no.  As Scott said, you just have to inspect them side by side

Can't answer your specific question but will add that I have been told that the '98-00 Wings incorporated the transmission changes that were made to withstand the HP & torque increases that came about with the introduction of the Valk in '97 so if there is any interchangability it might be those years that work.

I checked the part #'s and they appear to be the same in '98 as those given below for a '97 1500A.
