I've actually found that the longer I practice it...the more outside influences line up against it...  Undecided

Sure.  The more you put off as lower priority than your health, the bigger that pile becomes, and the more pressure to address that pile exists.

What I really meant was just the discipline of diet and exercise itself becomes easier with practice.

The best deal I ever had was my last assignment at HQ 15/AF.  The military gets an hour lunch (unlike the half hour for civil service).  But SAC had a big fitness program going on, and so long as the work on your desk was getting done/being kept up with, you could take as long a lunch as you wanted if you were exercising (within reason).  So I could drive the short 2 miles to my base housing, strip uniform and run for 5mi, shower, eat a small lunch, and drive back to work.... say 2+ hours.  This was so much better than putting in a long day, and being tired, and then having to go out after you got home for the day.

It makes me tired just thinking about it today.   crazy2

Non-negotiable.

That shift is required.

http://lifeisaroad.com/blog/2017/09/25/non-negotiable/

It's a good read and accurate with one small correction.  Taking care of your physical well being (or mental well being in another context) is not just putting yourself first.  As you stated, if you don't take care of yourself you will not be able to as much or as well or as long take care of others.   Sometimes the most caring and giving thing you can do is take care of your own needs, for others.

This is a concept my intellect knows is true...a simplified statement is you NEVER make yourself a victim to help others (just creates more problems)....

But it's also a concept that is very hard to get my head wrapped around.  A lifetime of doing what had to be done in some very tough times, the resulting moral alignment and work ethics, the times I've seen horrors that would not have existed if even ONE person had stood forward, and some very hard/tragic lessons from the times I've failed...all combine to make this entire effort feel...selfish I guess is the best word.

It's something I'm struggling with...in part because the consequences if I back off of my endeavor are not immediate. That makes things MUCH easier to put off for "someday".

There are also quite...unsubtle pressures from work, family, and society in general to reinforce that "selfish" notion...

I've mentioned just how much of a total head game this thing is I'm sure... Smiley

Head games.  One of the most difficult discoveries in life is that feelings and reality are not always the same.  Both have validity.  The hard task is learning to balance one's decisions using both one's feelings and one's understanding of reality.

What’s a disease that:
1) Has no symptoms.
2) Needs no treatment.
3) Has no risks/impact on the patient.
4) No test will show it exists.

Way to represent to that 375 guy Daniel.   cooldude

It's the kind of motivation anyone needs..... yes you can do it..... I'm doing it.

My issue with gym machines is not getting too close to someone, it's getting on a machine someone sweated out two quarts of goop all over and didn't wipe it down.  My goop is OK, yours not so much.

I never liked gyms, I like outdoors.... except for rain and snow and 100 or 20 degrees.

I have a big treadmill in my living room.... no other place in the house it would fit.  The somebich keeps telling me the weather indoors is always good.  I don't listen to it as much as I should.

Been pumping some iron again, I see... Your story is remarkable, Daniel, and it serves as a testimony to what determination, courage, and tenacity can do for us! Congrats on your achievements... I wish you well in the coming year, and I hope when it draws to a close, your thoughts on it will be most positive and satisfying...

As for yours truly... it just keeps getting better! I've just concluded the best year of my entire life, and I'm optimistic 2018 will surpass even that... We'll see.

Thanks for keeping us posted on your progress... It reminds us all of what we are capable of, even if we don't aim quite as high as you... Best of luck to ya!!!
