Will the rear tire off a Valk work on a 1500 Goldwing? I know they are different sizes, but didn't know if the Wing can handle the bigger tire. Trying to help a friend out, but need to know if this will work or not.

Thanks

the Valk is a 180-70 16 and the GW is a 180-60 16.

I have a GW tire on the back of my Valk, and it seems to give it more brake dive, I don't know about the other way around...

The 1500 had bias belted tires as OE.  Are you mixing bias and radial tires.  IMHO, not a good idea.

Whether it would work otherwise, I haven't a clue.

the difference between a 180/70/16 and 180/60/16 should be aprox. 18mm taller for the Valk 180/70/16 .  That is less than an inch taller. 1inch equal to about 25.5 mm.  suspension travel and load would be what I check before the swap.

I agree with Solo.  The GL1500 was engineered for bias ply tires and the Valkyrie was designed to use radial tires.  Also, it is unwise to use 1 of each on any bike.

Some has used the taller tires on the Goldwings. It helps correct the difference in the mph.

Thanks for the responses. Sorry I took so long to reply. Being back to work has taken a lot of my computer time away!!  Roll Eyes  From the general consensus, sounds like it could be a risk. Just trying to help out a friend in need, but don't want to do it with a risk of being unstable.

I have a friend that put a Valk tire on an 1800 GW to correct the speedometer. Not sure about the 1500, but I don't see why not. BTW, I rode behind an 1800 GW on a ride to Memphis a couple weeks ago and noticed he was running a car tire on the Wing. Never got a chance to talk to him on the trip but plan to ask him about it next time I see him.

Hey Charliemac !!  I was scaping parts off of the Valk on the Blue Ridge Parkway lately when the WX turned beautiful and noticed the Avon Venom rear tire opening up down in the treads ( I could see the cords) and torn/ripped on the sides. I left the BRP at Boone ,NC and went to a great Honda dealer (the only one there). They did not have a Valk 180/70/16, but they did have a used (300 miles) 180/60/16 Wing Avon Venom that some dude had pulled off of his Wing for Michelins/Metzlers ??. I paid $40.00 for the tire and it saved my ars in the mountains....I didn't realize my tire had 14K on it...even tho I keep track of all this on a chalkboard in the garage for the Valk and '71 750 Four.... ???

Please say hello  to your lady and I hope to see ya'll soon......dave
