I am considering getting a Corbin seat based on all the favorable comments in the forum, but have two questions. Once the seat is installed how difficult is it to remove the side covers for the battery and storage area? I would also like to get the Corbin backrest, but would prefer not to have it installed with the backrest permanently attached to the saddle and not being able to remove it without taking off the seat and removing the screw. My question is how much of a problem/risk would I have merely sliding it into the seat when I want to use it, and taking it off after the ride? How big a risk in losing the back rest during the ride?
I'd appreciate any feedback.
Thanks, Mike

The Corbin seat is attached just like your stock seat. There are 2 chrome Tabs coming off the back of the Corbin seat. Each tab has slots in them for your 2 mounting screws and rubber washers. It is very easy to take off and put back on.I have always taken the seat off to have access to the battery, side covers, and storage area. I do not have a backrest so I can't help you there. I sent my Corbin seat back after 2 seasons as I felt it was still too hard. I had them install softer foam and also had them move the seating position 1 inch closer to the handlebars. I have not had a chance to try the seat out, we still have a lot of snow and cold temps. If you like a softer seat, let Corbin know, they can set it up that way from the beginning so you don't have to return it.

The side covers can be taken off with the seat on the bike but I would recommend removing the seat if you plan on removing them frequently.
i was removing mine with out taking the seat off and recently this resulted in me breaking of the the tabs off the side cover:(
Cannot comment on the passenger backrest, but the drivers backrest slides in and out without tools.

I purchased a seat from them when I got mine after a few months and realized the OEM seat was trash. The seat I got was no better returned it and they agreed to modify the seat, soften it and I pointed out the side cover issue. Got the seat after almost 4 months of calling and getting bounced from one person to the next till finally got someone at the factory who said he would get it together and sent out asap. Got the seat and appears they must have shortened the mounting tab location from the front horn which caused the seat to be shorter causing the shell to rise up further on rear fender took 2 people to force seat down to get mounting screws into place this caused the seat pan to flair out and give the desired clearance for me to get the side panels off. The seat was much better in comfort but not great for me. I had a Russell before on VTX and was the best. I keep thinking now that I have the OEM seat to send off but now my riding is almost nilly do to heath issues sith wife and my time away for any reasonable long rides are nilly for now. Depending on your personal feel some people like the OEM most have liked the Corbin with no problem. I have there backrest and works great. Corbin may work out but no one has ever complained once owning a Russell

I've a Corbin and don't like it. I think it really depends on your end goal with the seat if you should get one or get a different seat. Are you looking for a better looking seat? The Corbin is certainly that! Are you looking for a more comfortable seat? Don't get a Corbin, it's absolutely NOT a more comfortable seat.
I had the OEM seat to start, and got about a 60 miles and realized I needed something different with the seating, and settled on a Corbin seat. I looked at other seats, but the Corbin was the only one, at the time because Russel Daylong wasn't doing them then, that would do a passenger back rest and had the durability in weather I was going to need. If I were to do it over, I'd have done something about the OEM passenger seat for my wife so she could ride with me and gotten rider pegs. I've tried the OEM seat with rider pegs and it beats the crap out of the Corbin for comfort as far as the driver goes, but the OEM passenger seat is crap compared to the Corbin. I've considered sending the seat back for adjustment, but read that it can take months to have that happen. It took quite a long time to get the seat in the first place, and so I just deal with it. I don't hate the seat, I just wouldn't choose it as a seat if I were to do it all over again.
As far as getting the side covers on and off, if you're going to do it often then don't get a Corbin. The side covers are under the side of the seat, and the seat sides are super stiff so getting them off and on is VERY difficult. It can be done, but it's not easy that's for certain.
When I got my Corbin, I had to have someone sit on the seat to get the rear of the seat to meet the fender to attach it. Now that the seat has had some miles on it, getting it on and off isn't quite so difficult as it was when I first installed it.
The backrest for the passenger is easy to install and remove with the seat installed. The little screw in the back of the seat is easy to access to set the passenger seat backrest. I've never used the rider backrest so can't tell you how that works.

Russell can't do a backrest in a solo seat like ours. My backrest is a Utopia in my OEM passenger seat, so I can't go solo, but the Russell and the Utopia are really good. -Mike
