Well was a slow day at work so decided today was the day to do some of the accumulated maintenance stuff that needed to be done. I had kind of been neglecting my baby and not even washing her which is so not me. But today things got put right again.

So I,
Took the front tire off and installed a New front tire
Put in balancing beads
Installed new front brakes
Removed bags
Cleaned rear and other spots not usually seen under the bags
Wet sanded, touched up, buffed and waxed bags and rear fender
Realigned bag brackets and realigned bags installed with new bolts
Cleaned the inside of the bags
Polished wheels greased any point that needed it
Detailed spray finger prints away, did a final wax then wash the bike and

DONE cooldude cooldude

I started at 9am and didn't really get done till 4 pm. I really didn't think it would take that long.
Everything came out great and was very happy to have a new tire, brakes and everything back in order all nice and clean.

The front brakes were interesting and had a bit of an issue cleaning the caliper before I pushed the pistons back in since they were pretty dirty. I would highly recommend cleaning the pistons before pushing them back in since there is no boot for the pistons, but more than likely a scrapper seal. The brakes fit very precisely into the caliper not the usual clearance on most brakes. As with the 1500 I would recommend removing the brake pad bolt, the one that has an allen on the head that unscrews from the caliper and cleaning it and putting on some good grease or anti seize, since there is no cover and its screwed directly into the caliper without a touch of lubricant on it.

I got my wear out of the front tire and the brakes since the tire had no tread over 80 percent of it and the pads had about 1/16 of an inch left on the inside pads. All the rest is ok and will maybe, this weekend install the new crash bar that got scratched and then it will be done.

Keeping the caliper from scratching the front fender was a bit of a chore while I was working on it till I found a bag full of work gloves and stuffed that between the wheel and the fender and that worked really well to rest the caliper on while cleaning it.

I really love this bike.

This bike is less maintenance than the 1500 but even at that it takes a bit to keep a bike in great running condition when you use it everyday. Its not like a car.

Hey Robert, how many miles did you get out of those brake pads?

About the maintenance, When I lived full time in AZ I used my bike everyday as long as I can fit in it what ever it was I might bring home. We really don't care how much it costs to use our bike's, And it is a big reason to have a hobby that can fit into your daily life so easily, unlike boating and others that you need to put aside time to do. BUT, it is prolly more economical to use a small car for daily use, most get 30+ MPG's today and tires last 4 times longer, EHH, thats no fun...

The brake pads lasted 18k with 1/16 on one inside pad, some of the others had more meat but wasn't about to take the chance. I do alot of stop and go.

Have used them in the past and somehow got away from them but glad I used them again.
