So this really isn't a hard concept, but the Valkyrie isn't an offroading adventure bike.

Stock Dunlop tires sometimes hate asphalt, and they most assuredly do not like dirt!
This is the last time I trust someone planning a mountain road trip without first checking on their proposed route.

I couldn't even go over 20 MPH without feeling like the bike would lose traction. Still, it was fun... in a mental sort of way. I've got plenty of footage of the corners I did hit that really showed me what this bike could do, but they aren't as interesting as my dumb foray into the dirty wild. Enjoy.

Watching you Riding through Colorado's dirt roads fun, listening to the narrations Priceless.    2funny

Thanks for the video, if you get the Michelin tires they are for off road being a dual sport tire.

Sometimes the roads here in Florida end in a dirt road since I usually go in places that are fairly secluded. Although not ideal you have more confidence with these tires. I am doing this a bit more since I have found some beautiful places that require off roading. The biggest pain is the washboard dirt roads, and as long as its not to soft your fine.

I dunno.... every bike you ride in the dirt and woods is an adventure bike

It's just that some are more adventure than you care for.   Smiley

I trailed my '70 650 BSA Lightening (first bike).  Not particularly well.

Forget size and weight, just street tires alone are not very good off road.

My car tires will throw me aorund some on my 1500s in the dirt and gravel, but I still prefer them for stability and braking to a bike tire.  I don't do it much anymore, more by accident than on purpose.

I prefer my adventure on concrete.

You need to find a good used KLR650 Kaw as a second or 3rd bike, it will tame those old dirt roads.

Great bikes. Another good choice is Suzy DRZ 400, less weight. Or go for broke and get the new KTM 2 stroke ----Fuel Injected----- Orange.  crazy2

Did you know google maps route options lets you say you don't want dirt roads?

Also, where in CO is that? Very pretty!

Moofner, It looks like you did all right. In 2010 a group of us were headed out to Sturgis SD. One of our crew who has a bad back decided to trailer his. Hearing horror stories about traffic in down town Sturgis he asked if i could find away around. Not to many choices since we were staying 18 miles north of the Buffalo Chip. After talking to a local, Does that road stay paved ? Yes for a while. A while turned out to be 1 1/2 miles, the rest dirt and gravel for 34 miles. That is gravel as big as baseballs and washed out gullies. Traffic, no problem , you could see their cloud of dust for three miles. The speed limit posted was 55 Mph. You would need a Baja Buggy in order to do that. After we got to our lodging and a lot of complaining and cussing I said well guys were ready for anything now. We were , not on problem with parking lots gravel roads , people dropping their bikes. A hella of a Tune up. Ha Ha

I'm not exactly sure, but it was near an abandoned hotel with some historical reference to whiskey running. The dirt road also ultimately ends up at a casual biker called Decker's Corner.

Funny stuff, Moofner.  Welcome to Colorado!  A car tar and a kidney belt would have made for a slightly better experience.

I ended up on a horrid road last summer after following a detour sign. I seriously thought I might end disappearing that day. I heard banjo music in the distance(think deliverance)
I still think someone moved those signs as a joke or a set up. I didn't stop to give anyone a chance to grab me.
The road didn't show on the maps. I looked at my location history after I got home.
I got to a point and had to just ride it out as I don't think I could have made it down that loose stone hill so had went up without laying her down.  The bike was a bit squirrelly but I thought it did pretty well.
