We spent from Thursday afternoon through Saturday up on the Suwanee River this weekend.
Grumpy's newly restored vintage Evinrude 25hp ran flawless through the weekend and logged a ton of miles on it. Led by his fishing guide, Murphy, of course!

I don't have a trailer for my boat, it's in a High & Dry in Tarpon. Can I get into the Suwanee River from the Gulf? And is it deep enough for my Boat?

Yep, and most is deep enough, a few sand bars to watch for in the river.

Hey Bill, how far North of Tarpon is the entrance to Suwanee?

Not bad, leave early and spend a few days up there.

May be able to rent a dock at Bill's Fish Camp. Great little place to stay. Talk to Kathy there and see.
Springs all up and down the river to explore and cool off in .
Can stay at Yellow-Jacket Campground as well. More expensive and have to bring your own bedding  Angry but it is up near where the big springs (Manatee, Fanning) are as well as a bunch of other springs. Can rent pontoons there as well.
Farther up, the Alachua river joins the Suwanee. There is a nice beach at the intersection. A few sand bars to put the boat on and relax for a while as well.
Only one restaurant in Suwanee (Salt Creek) but it is a good one. Only one place to get breakfast at (the marina) but also good.

Pappy, had a little excitement on the way back, about halfway home on the veterans expressway started smelling smoke like wood burning. A few min later the ac vents in the truck started smoking like crazy. Had to get off the road and put the fire out. Turned out the air box below the dash had filled up half way with leaves and the resister for the blower got hot enough to set them on fire. thank goodness I carry a co2 extinguisher, got the fire out and took a panel off and cleaned all the leaves out.   No damage to the truck, but now the A/C smells like a camp fire.  guess I need to add some screen wire below the cowl vent to keep the leaves out.

I would like to have someone with me that knows the waters up there. I know everything south of Tarpon, I never go north, but I want to start seeing some of Old FL up there. Maybe I can get U or Grumpy to jump on my boat in Tarpon and show me the way? I would definitely like to do a few days up there.  cooldude

Used to fish the Suwannee with my Dad.  I kept seeing visions of a Spanish Galleon sailing up the river.  There is supposed to be some pirate treasure buried along the river too.  I believe the fork in the river is the Suwannee and the Sante Fe.
