Need a little help here.Did a search on this board regarding getting blanks as spare keys for my Valkyrie as Honda blanks are a ripoff.Cant now find the thread. The thread referenced Ace hardware HD96p blanks that do work but are not long enough,as I found out,to lock the steering. Can someone offer any info about the correct length blank or forward the thread as another key blanks was referenced....thanks in advance

I got one from Lowes, it fit, but didn't work.
I'll try ACE or something next... anyone who knows of or finds a "standard" place we can all go that can make keys let us know...

When I bought my bike in December the dealership personnel couldn't find the 2nd key.
A Honda blank was ordered (or so I was told) and it took over 2 months for it to come in.
I took it to a locksmith to have it cut. He asked how much I had to pay for the genuine Honda blank and I explained I didn't have to pay anything but the price sticker on the bag it came in had $49.95 on it.
He showed me that he carried the blanks that would work just as well and they were less than $5 and he cuts keys for $2 so I had him cut me another extra key from the blanks he sells. Both keys that he cut for me (genuine Honda and off the wall blank) work just fine in the ignition, the gas tank access, and the steering neck on my bike.

Gidday...just talked to the bloke at ACE hardware that cut the blanks.....he has a longer key blank HD103,that we are going to try...$2.99/key and cut.....he reckons the reason I can't get the key to work the lock portion of the ignition is because of the key "shoulder" length.....he reckons the HD103 might do the trick....will have one cut and see how she works....

I had a key cut at Ace and it worked fine, I think it was 129 and the blank had the plastic at the top and was longer. I cut off the plastic and cut off the top 1/4 inch of key polished it up and that is what I use along with a quick disconnect to hang it to my key ring.

I went to ACE too, I meant to post about it. I got a HD103 as sheepshagger suggested, and it seems to work fine, I now have an emergency key in my wallet The hd103 comes with a plastic coated "handle", or not plastic coated, I chose the not coated, it is thinner for my wallet... -Mike

I took a stock blank and cut it , then heated it up an pushed it into a Radio knob. That one sits in the gas cap lock all the time. Fits the helmet lock and storage under side panel but will not start the bike. Jim

Mate ....turns out out the HD 103 is not long enough to lock the steering...went to a AAA afilliated key specialist and they had HD110 keys( they had to order) for $6 a piece ....they work perfect....correct length and the exact shoulder height on the key to depress the ignition and lock the steering....

Good to know... I only care about gas and ignition, and only as a spare in case something happens to my "real" key while I'm away on a ride, so I'm real happy with my 103... -Mike "it is in my wallet now"

You sir are a wise man - the folks on the F6B forum do this same trick - quite nice.

I just logged onto the forum after being away for awhile and noticed this thread and the fact that I had a PM from a member asking which key blank the locksmith used to cut my spare.
It is an iLCO HD110-P
Fits and works perfect in all the key slots on my Valkyrie.
