Does anybody have or remember a post showing how you can take a small finished nail and adapt a regular H4 to fit the interstate headlamp?

Look for post "H4 Bulb Adapter Rings" on about page 6, all the answers you would need or check out Shop Talk.

A pair of pliers. Bend and brake off the bottom 2 tabs. I'll be doing that myself very soon.

I did this with my 1st IS back in 2010, never noticed a problem. Some have said it doesn't lay perfectly flat, which is what those rings are for, but unless you ride in the dark, you would never notice.

I bought a pair of 60/55 (?) H4 bulbs from amazon. I've just removed the fairing and have it on my table to fix the loose inner fairing "nuts", swap the bulbs, and install a head light modulator.

Yup, just removed the existing bulbs, 1 H4 with the 2 tabs removed, and an OEM H3 (?).

Took out my new Hella 60/55, and bent the tabs back/forth till they failed, and placed it in the head light. It sat flat after putting the wire support back in. Looks fine, no problem and no adaptor ($) needed.

The adapter rings are a PITA to get sistered up in there with new bulbs (with the fairing in place).  They are not necessary.  Just break off the two tabs and insert your modified bulbs.  My two interstates have been running multiple modified H4s for years and years with no rings.  The bulbs kind of go in loose, but my aim has always been good, and bulb longevity about what you'd expect.

I just put in some silver star bulbs in my  I/S and used the adapter rings.  They went on nice and snug, the hardest part was pulling the connector off but old bulbs.
