internal fuel screens??
«

So... I have my carbs out and torn down for rebuilding. I was surprised to find small fuel screens in the fuel rails right under each float valve????? they appear to be non-removable...I can't find mention of these anywhere. They are supposed to be there, right?? I know other carbs have fuel screens, but they are usually removable and hence ,cleanable.

I just had the carburetors apart on my 97 Valkyrie . I had them apart twice I had the fuel rails apart to replace the o rings. I do not remember seeing any screens in the carburetor fuel inlets. I may have missed them them. I know about the fuel filter screen attach to the petcock inlet.
Can you take a picture of the screens?

as far as I know all Valkyrie carbs have them. not replaceable.
on a side note, another reason I feel its a bad idea to add an extra inline fuel filter. just another restriction to fuel flow in a gravity fed system. good chance of running lean at WOT with a low tank fuel level.

I agree with CA, that the OEM screens are entirely adequate. Actually the "crud" owners find in their carburetors and float bowls is not necessarily stuff that has passed thru the screens (but rather) algae, fungus, and other organisms that are hydrocarbon tolerant, and set up housekeeping inside the fuel system. That is the reason for the imperative note, on gasoline additive use. Additives help keep that stuff from forming inside the fuel system along with keeping the system clean. You just can use it too much, and being cheap, not using it is what causes the problems.
