I'm having a noise from the clutch that goes away when the lever is very slightly pulled in, not even to the point of engagement.  I found this article on Shoptalk under the heading Clutch Noise or Dry Splines saying the noise is somehow related to dry splines:

http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/clutchnoise.htm

"If you are getting noises that sound like it is coming from your clutch, but goes away when you pull in the clutch, then you can just about bet this is your problem. I went round and round with the dealer on this and they even replaced my clutch push rod thinking that was it. I was at the point where I was just going to let the thing blow up. I had to change my tires and I saw how dry my splines were. I hoped and prayed that this was the problem and it was!"

Just scratching my head about how this clutch noise could be related to dry splines, any ideas?

Has anyone else had a clutch noise that went away after spline maintenance?

Since the bike is due for a spline lube I'll guess I'll test the theory soon...

I'm not an expert and maybe someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

When you say you pull in the clutch slightly and the noise stops, are you riding the bike or is it stationary?  Personally I don't see how the splines could be involved if you're sitting still.

Somebody who really knows might have better insight.

When moving, and I'm only hearing it at town speeds.  Not sure if that's because it doesn't exist at higher speeds, or that I just can't hear it at higher speeds.  Sounds almost like a squeaky belt.

I can't see the correlation between this clutch related noise and dry splines.  Doesn't make sense.

EDIT:  Perhaps the Clutch Noise or Dry Splines section should be removed from Shoptalk.  Just sayin'.

7/14/17 Update:  Did the spline job.  The noise is still there.  As suspected, splines don't have a thing to do with the noise.
