The OEM tire size is a 180/55/17 but I would like to try a (200/55/17) and need to know if it will fit.

I'm not looking for a car tire just yet. I simple want to match a 130/60/19 Dunlop American Elite I bought today for the front with a 200/55/17 Dunlop American Elite that is available where I buy my tires.

Please don't ask me things like, "why did you buy those, you could have bought so-and-so tires". It is, what it is and I bought what I bought.

Thanks!  cooldude

Firefivht100, let us know if this fits very interested. I'm going to need a tire in 2,000 miles or so. If a good car tire fits would like to try one. Mileage, good ride, traction, count me in.

At your own peril. You might have to put it on yourself.

YES it will FIT

No advantage in putting a 200 series tire on a 5-1/2in. wide rim.
Might even be a disadvantage or two.
(I started to list the disadvantages but changed my mind.)

Buy it, mount it, ride it, let us know how it works out.  cooldude

So I got my 205 55 17 ct, mounted it, installed it and it is not going to work.. Was rubbing on the final drive tube as well as I think the battery box.  It sticks in the tire are on the left side of the fender.  Now back to the drawing board... Cry

If you are hell bent on using a car tire you will have to be content with a 195/45-17 or 195/40-17.  crazy2

Sorry FF100 but in your quote you said 200 series tire.
I believe a member put a 190 motorcycle tire on his Valk and it fit.
Maybe he'll chime in and tell you how much space he had left?

Maybe a 200 series car tire will fit, but don't forget a care tire will have a different profile than a motorcycle tire and that could make a difference.  cooldude

My apologies to 2014ValkyrieNS, I answered Firefight100 who hijacked your post.  ??? Guys, hijacking posts can create confusion!

A member (WaffenSS) over at F6C Forum is running a 200/55-17 and says that he has no problems with the tire.

Goldie, thank you for clearing things up, and also the fitting info on the 200/55/17 size tire...
I was 99.9% sure it would fit, or I would have kept my trap shut.

I'm done with my two-cents on tire info -  Lips Sealed ...

I honestly cannot see how a 200 series tire even in a motorcycle tire would fit without rubbing somewhere.

I am running a 190/55-17 and max there is only 3/16-1/4" clearance at the shaft drive tube.

I'm with you, Keith. going from a 190 to a 200 gives roughly a 10mm increase in width (depending on tire brand.) Your rough clearance measurements of 3/16" = 3/8" (overall) = 9.5mm clearance, which would indicate a no fit or a super marginal fit. A 1/4" = 1/2" (overall) = 12.7mm will also give a very marginal fit of 2.7mm (overall), 1.3mm each side! Like I said at your own peril!  I personally have not tried mounting a 200/55-17, so I might be wrong. I believe he is running this tire on an earlier Wing, but he is referring to my caution with the Valkyrie.

Here is the conversation that I had with WaffenSS:

The tire sits perfect on the rim NO side wall bulge have been running the 200 rear on my Goldwing for the last 4 years and 40'000 klms without a problem SO yes have tried it YES it does work FINE and i fit my own tries with the $30'000 worth of tire fitting equipment i have in my TIRE FITTING SHOP

Hey guys, I looked closely at the pics Waffen put up and the one on the dirt clearly has a Commander II on the back. Only one size it could be.

Michelin Commander II 200/55 17 installed.

I only have done a 60k (38m) run up through the mountain just now to scrub it in and see if anything unfortunate happened. Seems all good. I got a ride this Saturday and assuming I can find something that hosts pictures I will post up close ups of the install and any issues I can find, if any.

Pretty happy so far to be honest.

Yeah read that, also read the people that said nope, also read the part about no advantages.

As for that I consider another tire choice a pretty big advantage considering I couldn't even get one for it at the beginning. The advantage is increased dramatically if it works out as well as the one I got up the front which I am extremely happy with so far. Thus me wanting to try a Commander II on the back.

I am having trouble not seeing the advantages to be honest. Man it even looks great which is something I have never said about any tire I have had on the back.

Seriously in my opinion this thread here and another one on the other forum is the only reference to this tire I found and lets be honest it isn't what I would call a great thread. It leaves people like me looking for information not 100% sure of what is the score. Yes/no/death/etc.

I hope to help make a more positive contribution after a solid ride but won't know until I get some more road under it this weekend. I'll post those details and impressions up when I have them because that it what I was looking for in this thread, but didn't find it.

Great! I see no reason to ever go back.

To: Firefight100,

Hey my friend  I just installed an used tire 200/55ZR17 on my 2014 Valkyrie with no issues.

Now that I know it does not rubs anywhere, I'm going to cycle gear to order a Metzeler Cruisetec.
