I replaced the fatter hose due to some visible surface cracking.

Off I go on a 2 day trip.

Used to get 32-35mpg

First gas stop and the average was 40mpg.

Second gas stop after some fun on Greasy Creek Rd and the Cherohala and the average was 27mpg.  Evil

Next 2 gas stops and the average was back to about 40mpg.

The seat of the pants also told me that the bike had a bit more pep and it ran so smoothly. I was using quite a bit of the 4,500 to 6,500 rpm range in 3rd and 4th on the Cherohala and boy did it feel quick to accelerate.

Could also have been the low humidity giving a good ignition burn?

What was the ambient temp?

Cool, somewhat dry (~35-50% RH) air seems to make both of mine pretty happy. Much above the mid 70s/mid 70s and you'll notice a difference. Subtle, but there.

Wasn't cool but low humidity.

I've noticed better performance on low temp/humidity days but not to such a level of mpg improvement.

Unless it was leaking, I don't see how replacing the fuel supply hose could change the mpg.  Maybe somebody else has an explanation for how it's possible.
