My dad has a 99 Tourer and the PO had installed a cruise control system.  PO said when he sold it that the cruise worked.  Dad can't get it to work.  Maybe he's too dang old to use such new-fangled techno gadgets, or maybe it actually doesn't work... Regardless, he wants me to remove it when I come to visit him in a couple weeks.
1) how could I verify whether it is working or not (maybe it's just a fuse or something)?
2) how would I go about removing it (he doesn't know what model it is, so yeeeeaaaahh....)?
Aren't these cruise control systems pretty complex to install, and therefore uninstall?  If I can get it working, maybe he will change his mind on removal...
Thanks in advance for your advice.

I have the audiovox cruise and it stopped working. I found this link helpful in repairing it . The solenoid valves needed cleaning and it is working again .

Shop Talk has a How-To to install one. Should allow you to follow it to trouble shot it.

Even if not working, I wouldn't bother removing it. No harm, no fool.

If you can get it working, and your dad drives longer distances, then he will LOVE having it work. I would fix it (or confirm that it's dead) before removing it.

Complex? Not really. Time consuming, multi parted, yes. I bought the Audiovox and still need to install, but I have 3-4 other things that need to be done before the CC, as it's the last step in the chain.

Have you replace the brake light on the bike with LED lights?  that will stop it from working.

You're kidding, right?  Why would that make a difference?  Regardless, pretty sure dad is running regular bulbs everywhere on the bike, but I'll check when I head up there to see him.
It just seems odd that the seller would be like "it works" and dad can't get it to work.  Is there some sort of special way to engage the system that I should be aware of?

I have a LED standard tail light on my Interstate along with cruise control. Works great.

How long has your dad owned it? The previous owner still around? Ask him?

That's a good idea. Not sure if dad still has his contact info. I'll ask.
