Side cover bolts? Hah? Which ones? The side covers are plastic and have a stud into a rubber grommet, and a "clip", holding it on.

Which side cover are these? pictures?

Do you know where the relays are??? Do you know where the battery is??? The side covers are on the sides of the seat...I know they are plastic (the covers)...I know they have rubber grommets to hold on to the bolts...I was asking about the 'metal' bolts that screw into the frame...the size of the threads (not the length of the threads, either), the size in mm...!!! By the way, using somewhat precise terminology when asking a technical question will help people understand what you actually need to know, rather than confusing the issue.  Nothing to do with being politically correct.

That part isn't something that most have to deal with, e.g. buying a nut for, so its thread size isn't going to be on the top of anyone's mind.  Seeing as it isn't something that you can go to the hardware store and buy a generic replacement for, I'm curious why you need the thread diameter?  If you're wanting to put a ring terminal under it to use as a grounding point, my guess is that a terminal with a 1/4" ID will work fine.  I can tell you, however, that it won't me 4.7mm, as that's not an ISO thread size.  If a metric coarse thread, it will be an even mm size, i.e. M4, M5, or M6.  If fine thread (and I doubt it for this application), it could also be M4.5 or M5.5.

Good, and I suspect you will speak to the associate without the snippy demanding attitude.

Also, I re-read and cannot for the life of me find how you can call this thread political.  Whether you are looking for the studs to mount the side covers or the bolts that attach the tabs of the center portion.  It's not PC to be more clear, it's just common sense.

The thread pitch is the same as all 6 mm bolts, 1.25.

That is a special bolt designed to hold the side covers in the correct position, so the side covers line up with the middle cover and the rubber grommet fits right, keeping the side covers from blowing away on the highway.

You're not going to find one at Ace, although you will find 6 mm bolts with the 1.25 pitch.

You will have to modify anything you find, to hold the side cover correctly.

Probably be less BS to just buy a new one, if that is your need, but you fail to explain your issue.

Agreed, but I think Jess got it with the #11 question.

It is not a "bolt" per se.  it is the post that the grommet slides over.  I believe you would need a 6mm x1.25 to fit the hole.

Might be better off using a HeliCoil.

So if the hole is stripped, then you still have the stud? Take that to your local store and screw a nut onto it. Find the right one, then you know the proper size.

If the above is right, then it may be a none standard thread. So be prepared to buy an expensive tap.

How about just using that liquid steel and glue the stud back onto/into the bike?

I work on 8 Valkyries now on a regular basis. They are squared away now but it was aggravating how many pins/studs that don't need to be much tighter than finger tight are routinely WAY over tightened. There is no excuse for someone tightening those tight enough to strip them
