hey guys
i had a kinda like clunking noise i couldn't figure out where it was coming from, sounded like under timing cover, i removed the cover and started 2000 IS with cover off. i could hear the noise, sprayed tensioners with wd 40 and noise went away, looks like i will need to do something with the tensioner, buy a new one or rebuild.
just wondering what others have done
thanks guys, from the beautiful u.p

Do a search for belt tensioner, you'll find a lot.
Here is one.

If you have recently replaced the belts, it's possible you have the tensioners too tight. If not, then it's time for new or rebuild.

WD-40 is not a lubricant. Spraying the tensioners with WD-40 probably washed out some lubrication so now they are in worse condition than before.

Rebuild them, easy and can be done for about $ 25 a piece using a Gates Idler pulley. :cooldude:I posted pictures awhile ago and a link to a Goldwing paper that showed 7 different options. A google search should bring up this article. The gates part number is T42015. OEM will set you back about $90 each.
Good luck

WD-40 isn't much of a lubricant, a high percentage of it is fish oil. Meant only for light duty apps at best.
