Why?  Can't say, I did keep an eye out for you but never did see you.   I was there, I promise.   There was ample evidence although, I don't believe any of my mis-adventures made the local papers.   Wink

Okay, finally have the pics from my "real" camera processed (haven't gotten to the drone footage yet) so here's some pics:

Enjoying the snow storm on top of Pike's Peak:

Lake near the summit of Mt. Evans:

Summit of Mt. Evans:

Alpine Visitor Center, Rocky Mountain National Park:

Little boy that ran up to the bike and begged for a ride, with his mother's blessing I let him sit on the bike and make vroom vroom noises, made him so happy...

Riding through the Little Big Horn battleground, if I didn't know better I'd swear we could see the ghosts of the past personified...

She almost never gets a chance to wear it at home, and when I told her we'd be riding up into cold areas, she was super excited to get a chance to wear it... Smiley

Each time I been to the Little Bighorn its been 105+ deg. First time went into visitor center and then laid out in the grass with 10 other bikers. 2nd time we did the visitor center and got to listen to the presentation but way to hot to tour.

It wasn't on the original itinerary, but going by I asked Kali what she knew about it. She said she'd never heard of the Battle of Little Big Horn or Custer's Last Stand, so I decided we'd detour and go.

Turns out we went on the anniversary of the battle itself. Ended up riding through a reenactment. Very surreal, and Kali NOW knows about this piece of our history...

Okay, still haven't processed any of the drone footage, but got the last of the still photos processed finally... Once we got to Billings we rode over to Pompey's Pillar and checked out William Clark (Of Lewis and Clark fame)'s signature on the rock. I'm not big on group rides, so we went the morning before the formal group ride out to the monument, saw Willow heading back from his scouting trip on our way out and passed the main group of Valks heading to the monument as we were heading back to the hotel...

Kali got sworn in (again) as a Junior Park Ranger. Funny that she's taller than most of the rangers swearing her in now...

That night the spousal unit, her father, and our triplets rolled into Billings.

Blake, being the smart arse clown that he is, saw the podium and couldn't resist... He ran up, put a chair behind it, and stood behind it declaring (I'm not making this up!) I am President Donald Trump Blakenstein! Blah de blah blah blah de blah blah! With his finger wagging and everything...

We're gonna hafta keep an eye on that one...

At this point things go kind of fuzzy. Friends were met, lies were told, beverages were shared, memories were made for a few days with the camera safely tucked away.

And then we decided to do Bear Tooth Pass and Yellowstone, all in one day, in the cage so we could do it as a family.

That was a looooong day, but a good one.

The first scenic overlook stop on the way up Bear Tooth Pass:

Made it to the summit!

And then the Valkyrie Shame Squad showed up. At first I felt bad being in the cage, but then when I realized I couldn't feel my fingers from just a few minutes outside, I didn't feel so bad anymore. (And when I learned of the misadventures of other Valk riders I believe 2 days after our trip up, I felt even less bad about my decision.)

I offered to let them come in our cage and warm their hands up, but no one took me up on the offer...

Mommy doesn't do cold, she only came out of the cage for a few minutes...

...continued in the next post...

I'm sure it can be done.  They just have to dress a little more warmly than they would in a cage.

Congratulations, Serk! You've accomplished a miraculous feat... combining a long distance bike ride with a family outing... and survived!!! I salute you, sir, for doing all that... The memories your 'spawn' made will be shared with their grand kids someday. A huge adventure, and you all shared in that experience... together... Amazing!

I'm glad I had a chance, albeit a very brief one, to meet your family... Nice folks all, and those kids are all precious... Your daughter displayed signs of definitely being happy to have shared the ride up with you, and I'll bet this won't be her last ride. Thanks for sharing the experience with us... I really enjoyed that!

DDT

P.S. Thanks for the pic posting site suggestion in another thread! I've been using it since then, and even I can do it!!!

...continuing... Smiley

Driving from Bear Tooth pass towards Yellowstone, saw a dirt road turn off covered in snow... Pulled off, because hey, our Acura has 4 wheel drive, let's go for it!

...then I had images flash through my head of being stranded with 4 kids, my spousal unit and her dad because I'd done a stupid, and decided not to try it.

Heading towards the park it was pointed out quite loudly to me by an ever growing chorus of 6 year olds that there had not been a potty break in quite some time, so provisions were made...

And then we allowed the munchkins to run around a bit, splash in the water, skip some stones and just run off some energy...

Even the surly teen got in on the frivolity...

Coming into Yellowstone proper we spotted our first buffalo (Of many!)

Obligatory stop to see Old Faithful

And then we got stuck in another Yellowstone Rush Hour Traffic Jam...

We even saw some yummy critters that were NOT buffaloes!

Back at the hotel, there was some of this...

A little of that...

And a great deal of this (Referring to the rack of edibles BEHIND Motomama!)

Mommy had to usher the little ones out, they couldn't understand why daddy wasn't buying every single pie for them and were getting restless, but that's okay.
I have learned for the future, there is a strategy to pie night at Inzane. It's all about picking the right table... Smiley I know better for next time!

I believe he was taking a bid from a bidder on the phone here Wink

I love this pic of Kaelynn and her grandpa...

And Blake in full imp mode...

Okay, sorry to drag this out, but I'm gonna hafta continue this next time, I took a lot more pictures than I remembered! Cheesy

BTW, we don't like to mention Motomama and rack in the same sentence.

A local friend of mine told me while in Billings I had to check out the Rimrocks, so I made the few mile run up there, had a little hike down to the overlook, played with my drone a bit and took a few pics from up there...

After that made it back to Ground Zero for the pretty Valk contest:

Willow shining up ATADude's Valk:

Wandering over to the courtyard we see the Daniel in it's natural environment, disassembling a Valkyrie down to the frame for reasons:

Later that night, we spot Momma Bear with her 3 little cubs heading to the banquet:

Some ugly dude could be seen taking photos in the mirror:

A few of Montana's Finest were on hand to make sure things didn't get out of hand:

Later that night (No pics) had a wonderful time around the campfire in the parking lot swapping with some lovely Canucks...  Those times are always the highlights of such an event for me. Wish we coulda stayed around and chatted longer but alas, the next day was a travel day...

So the next day the elder spawn and I got up early, and started riding. First stop was Devil's Tower:

From there we rode into Sturgis, SD (No pictures) just so we could say we'd ridden to Sturgis. ZERO interest in going there during bike week, but we bought some t-shirts and had a lovely lunch at the world famous Sturgis Burger King before heading out to our next stop, Mt. Rushmore:

Kali's orthodontist is having a "Who can come up with the most creative summer vacation pic with our logo in it" contest, we came up with the idea of her pretending to give George Washington her retainer...

Same view as photographed millions of times before, but I had to take my pic of it as well just because hey, I was there!

After that, we headed off to see the lack of progress on the Crazyhorse Monument...

It is impressive, but they've still got a LONG way to go...

Crazy Horse concluded the "fun" part of our trip (And nothing drove that point home quite like riding through central Nerbaska the next day.)

At one point on a rural 2 lane highway in Nerbaska there was a state trooped blocking the road, I approached and asked what was going on, she told us we needed to take a dirt road 2 miles, make a left and go another 2 miles, make another left for another 2 miles and get back on the highway. I asked what was up, she made a grimace, looked down at my bike and said there'd been an accident...

Following the detour, as we got back on the highway we looked back and saw 2 bikes on their sides and a car upside down. That didn't look good, very sobering thing to see. Later on I did some research and found that a driver had for unknown reasons crossed the center line and took out 2 bikes, each with a married couple on them. A few minutes later and that could have been us. Sobering thought, but life is risk, but it did mess with my head once I learned that was tied for the worst motorcycle accident in Nebraska history, and we happened across it.

http://www.omaha.com/news/nebraska/motorcyclists-killed-in-crash-south-of-lake-mcconaughy/article_3594d7a8-5ec3-11e7-831e-df584bbd2f33.html

Other than that, the rest of the ride home consisted of Nerbaska, Kansas, Oklahoma and norther Texas, which mostly went by in a blur of super slab where possible, 12 days on the road it was time to sleep in my own bed.

Anyway, thanks for following along, thank you to the organizers of Inzane, thank you to the volunteers at Inzane, and thanks for my friends for making me and my family welcome there. Had a lot of relatives think we were crazy for taking 6 year olds to a "biker rally". I tried to explain to them they didn't know these "bikers"...

...until next time (And until I finally get off my butt and do something with my drone footage)

Great report overall, Serk...what an adventure for the whole family, I'm sure it'll be a favorite memory for years to come. Again, enjoyed meeting both you and the clan, and having the chance to share a few stories.
Yes, a "campfire" always seems to be the perfect setting for getting together with old friends and new ones...we had members from all over drop by throughout the evening....a perfect ending to a great week.

I would have tried it in my little FWD Saturn if I wanted to be on the other side!  Cool

Yup, if I'd had reason to be on the other side I would have gone for it, but the only reason I wanted to get to the other side was because it was there, it was a detour from our actual route...

So did your bike come through with no problems or issues?

(wrenching right before a trip can sometimes be a problem)

I was a little concerned about that, so I rode her hard as much as I could before the trip. No real issues the whole ride, the only issues I had were ancillary, broken bolt on the back rest, USB charging cord died after a rain storm and got swapped out, and my turn signal switch got smushy.

Ask you eldest spawn if she would make a post about what she thought of the trip.  Hell, unless there is a minimum age limit for membership, I think after a trip like that she should sign up as a member!  I'm sure she could hold here own in the political threads.

Heh, as far as the political threads, let's just say I've raised her right (In her school mock-legialature team she was the lone defender of gun rights against all the other kids. Her side won the debate.) I've sent her the link and suggested she sign up, so far she's hung up on what her handle should be, but I'm working on her to do just what you said while the details are still mostly fresh in her mind.

At many mornings at that Burger King.  cooldude Sucks pulling out tho. Well during bike week...

As I recall took a few minutes to pull out even in late June, kind of an awkward intersection to pull out of.

Heh, her friend suggested the same thing, so we'll see...

While we wait for her direct input, she did put together a slideshow for her orthodontist and made it shareable:

So did your bike come through with no problems or issues?

(wrenching right before a trip can sometimes be a problem)

I was a little concerned about that, so I rode her hard as much as I could before the trip. No real issues the whole ride, the only issues I had were ancillary, broken bolt on the back rest, USB charging cord died after a rain storm and got swapped out, and my turn signal switch got smushy.

Wrenching right before a big trip is like...a tradition! If I went out and pulled a wheel off my bike the wife would ask, "Where ya headed?" Smiley

Seeing her reaction will be cool! Good egg...that one.

Nice slide show and she does have an awesome smile.   Smiley

She better, considering how much we paid for it!  2funny

An awesome slide show and smile!   I think the Ortho should give her a discount for the awesome advertising.

Serkette for the time being.   Wink  She's a good reflection of her mom and dad.   cooldude

Heh, her friend suggested the same thing, so we'll see...

While we wait for her direct input, she did put together a slideshow for her orthodontist and made it shareable:

Well done!............
