Left kidney. 2 stones. 6 mm each.
6MM!!! THAT'S A FRICKIN ROCK NOT A STONE. IN FACT IT'S A BLOODY BOULDER.
Had C/T scan yesterday following a little (ha-ha) pain all day Tuesday and most of Wednesday. Made me say and think some bad words along with a few animal grunts.  Shocked

As a water drinker it has pissed (pun intended) me off no end. I only drink water. No coffee, no tea, very rarely a soda. But beer. Ah beer. Not a lush but I can drink a 12 pack a week on a good week.

So no beer in my foreseeable future until I get myself stone free  - musical interlude -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH1Pxi-uJY0

Go to see urologist next Wednesday but hope to pass the rocks  before then.  Shocked Shocked Shocked

good luck,, been there done that twice. In my case it was to cut my meat intake ( all meat) in half. I used to eat a lot of meat. But I cut it in half and have not had stones in 15 years. Had to have mine blasted up and a tube put up me to pass the gravel over the next 7 days. I drink beer and it does not cause the stones,, but in my case,, too much meat did. Not a fun experience.

I feel for you and I hope that all goes well.

I've never had them but I've taken care of enough people that were passing them to know that the pain is incredibly severe.

I took a lady to the hospital once that told me she had given birth to 5 children and 1 kidney stone.

She said that she'd rather give birth to 5 more children!

I had no problems but was talked into having a kidney blasted. I was turned loose right afterwards and just told to come back in 2 weeks. All was good for a few hours then all hell broke loose and went on non stop for 4 days. I was soaking bath towels [sweat] and I thought I would shake myself apart.
At the doctors all he said was' why be a hero, why didn't you call' and said when to come back for the other kidney blast. I told him he was the one that turned me loose without telling what to expect and he would never see me again.
The stone he blasted was a 9mm stag horn that was settled down the lower part of the kidney and not bothering a thing. The stone in the left one is 8mm and also nestled snugly in the bottom.

Sorry for the long story, but, I know how you feel. I squirted out about 20-30 chunks and some were close to BB size.

That is why they put a plastic tube up me for the aftermath. Put the tube in when I was out and I passed all that stuff with no pain at all.

Being a beer drinker take it for whatever its worth. A friend of mine had stones for a period of time, caused issues, believe they attempted blasting. His Dr. suggested Miller Lite?????
He absolutely swears by it now. Undecided

A riding buddy has just gone through this, got out of hospital yesterday, his stone was 12mmx8mm and he was in a lot of pain so glad to have it out, he thought it was huge until another rider showed theirs....it was twice the size!

Starting to think I need to watch what I eat more..... I don't want to go down that road!

I think it's more to do with the individual. My wife has had several of them. I've never had one. I drink, eat tons of red meat, drink gallons of coffee. She hasn't drank in 20 years, eats fairly healthy, only a couple cups of coffee a day. (I hope I didn't just jinx myself) Her first stones were the worst. They decided they were too big and needed to operate. By the time they got in there she had unknowingly passed them.  Shocked

Gout always was a forerunner to my kidney stones. They do a chemical analysis of the stones and then they know what your body is getting too much of. We all handle things differently.
In my case it was meat,, not red ,, just meat period. I was developing too much Uric acid and that makes small crystals which then any other imbalance,, say calcium for example can cling to the uric acid crystals and form stones.
Corrected my diet and now I get neither stones or gout.
Gout is very painfull also

Coming home from my son's in Kzoo after Christmas, the wife was in terrible pain, stopped at the E-room, 2.5 hours later after suffering in the waiting room, they finally took her back and drugged her up.  Kept her over night and CT'd her.  She had a 7mm stone and kidney infection.  They put a stent in gave her antibiotics and 2 weeks later, blasted the stone and removed it.  Out patient surgery, I took her home and went to work the next day she  was fine, the day after that I came home and she had a 104 fever.  Back the the E-room, she was septic and they kept her for a week, then sent her home for a weeks worth of IV antibiotics every 4 hrs.  Her urologist says her stones are due to excess calcium (she was taking OTC supplements).  The Doc and I told her to stop and stop wasting money on that crap.  So far so good.

Good Luck, Paul.

Taking alpha blocker to help relax muscles in the kidney, ureter etc.

500mg Naproxen to dull pain.

Drinking pints and pints of water. Could get a gold medal for peeing  Grin

Also drinking undiluted lemon and lime juice to try to dissolve the little buggers.

Posted this before but thought you or anyone else experiencing kidney stones would appreciate..IT WORKS !!!
I had passed stones on 2 separete occasions...never wanted them again so I did some research..found a Dr. study and also local health food store owner that proves Black Cherry Concentrate (not juice , but Concentrate) contains the only acid that will get through your system to the stones and break them down ( water and other juices just flush you out)Used it several times , as have several friends that I suggested it to , and have never had them since. You can buy it at GNC or any health food store and dilute several Tablespoons full in a glass of water 3 or 4 times a day...Works like a charm !!!! water , cranberry juice , lemon juice, etc... only FLUSH you out with peeing more..Black Cherry concentrate dissolves stones !!!

Pain has subsided to an occasional twinge.

So much so that Saturday night I was able to go pick up a friend from the ER at a local hospital.

She tripped, face planted in a parking lot.

Badly swollen - nothing broken - knee, bruised ribs and scabbed chin.

Hearing of the Valkyrie rider getting hit on Alt 226A.

Friend wrecking his bike Thursday on the first day of his 2 week Great Lakes trip. 5-7 cracked ribs and pulled hamstring.

Plus other Valkyrie news. Utah, and that's all I've got to say about that.

I'm hoping for a more peaceful week.

Still peeing for America  Grin

So much water in AND so much fluid out.

It's so clear I reckon I could reuse it. Evil

Just found this  Grin

"I'm a woman which means kidney stones aren't as painful as they are for men. The pain is worse than childbirth, ruptured ovarian cysts, and severe stomach viruses.

When its in the kidney it feels like severe back cramps with a side of nausea. When it moves into the ureter, the pain amplifies and it feels like a cockleburr is slashing a line from your kidney to your bladder. The muscles in the area lock down and cramp.

Once its in the bladder, it mainly hurts when it pokes the bladder, the bladder is empty or it blocks the urethra. Bladders do spasm and it's the type of pain that leaves you on your knees throwing up.

My family gets these a lot and as true rednecks, we have a cure! First, you need supplies: a case of dark beer (Guinness Black works best), a gallon of cranberry juice, and a gallon of water. Call your friends and family for moral support. Chug a beer. Chug a glass of cranberry juice. Chug a glass of water. Repeat until you're too drunk to feel and your bladder is about to burst. Go to the bathroom. If you hear something that sounds like a bb hitting a hubcap, congrats! If not, time to keep drinking.

Edit: holy crap, this got a lot of attention and y'all outed my screen name to my little brother! First thing this morning I got a text saying "Sister, you made the front page!" Thanks for that... ಠ_ಠ

To answer the common questions:

Beer is used because its cheap, available, and mostly water. It's for pain relief, muscle relaxant, and to make you "break the seal." Cranberry juice is an antibiotic and is meant to heal the war zone that is your innards, not to prevent further stones. Water is so you don't die from alcohol poisoning.

You really shouldn't take medical advice from someone's who only creds are "self-proclaimed redneck." However this is less likely to kill you than other redneck activities like snake wrangling and hunting deer without an orange safety vest.

My family has a genetic issue that causes chronic kidney stones. We could write a paper on what doctors say but snuggle that crap. We don't need much of an excuse to drink beer and it's cheaper than all those new-fangled medicine and procedures. Our family's average life span is 94 and all of us are smoking, drinking, cussing, assholes with no shame. We have continued this kidney stone ritual for over 70 years.

Guinness Black working so well was a surprise. I fed one - just one - to Dad on family day and the next day he pissed out a cannonball. Now when he's hurting, he calls to see if I have any in stock because its ridiculously effective but he hates the taste. Chambourcin wine works almost as well. Before that happy accident, we drank Miller Genuine Draft. "

Urologist visit today.

Saw CT scan which showed the 1 stone in the left ureter at the entry to my bladder.

http://www.kidneyurology.org/Library/Urologic_Health.php/Urniary_system_and_how_works.php

After conversation with urologist and discussion about proposed treatment of sticking a tube up my dick with a laser in it to break up the stone followed by a stent with string attached to pull the stent out I'm feeling queasy and weak kneed.

Only redeeming factor of this conversation is that the Urologist is a kinda Italian looking version of Ellen Degeneres. Brown eyes with dark hair and a lovely smile.

Of I go to have an X-ray to see if there's been any movement of the stone since my CT scan 6 days ago.

During the X-Rays I'm chatting to the radiology tech who tells me she like my accent as did the Urologist. As do most of the women I speak with. If only I was handsome I would be able to pull so many.

I ask the tech if she will be able to tell me if the stone is till present. She says NO.

I tell her that no matter what she says I would not hold her to her statement.

After a little more verbal banter she says "Even though I'm not medically trained to read the X-Rays and we use old crappy computers I can't see the stone".   cooldude cooldude cooldude

So now I have fingers crossed that the bloody thing has passed through due to my fluid intake in the last 6 days.

I'll be speaking with the urology office tomorrow to get results from the hose mouth.

FINGERS CROSSED.

Since the CT scan I've been drinking water water water water.

Along with neat lemon juice.

Lime juice.

Concentrated black cherry juice.

Diluted organic apple cider vinegar ( 2 tbsp per 8 fluid oz of water)v- which makes me gag so I added some of the black cherry juice to help with taste. Plus lots of water because the vinegar is bad for teeth enamel.

Urologist gave me a small strainer to pee in to catch the stone if it passes. I asked if it had a target on it. She thought that was kinda funny.

Anywho, the strainer mesh is so fine that back splash is the result. Grrrrr.

They gave me a coffee filter type thing.  I was whizzing every 20 minutes and threw it away in frustration after a while.

I saw a spot of blood in the pot (but no stone), and that was probably it, symptoms ceased shortly.  The thing is, while calcium is like 85% of all stones, there are some four other types, and if you collect the stone for analysis, they might be able to give you an idea of diet and other things to prevent a recurrence.  Even with no analysis, odds on it's calcium.  I have had no recurrence in about 10 years.  I took 250-500 Magnesium for years, but quit taking anything a while back.  No multi-vitamins ever, as they all have calcium.  I probably drink 2/3-3/4 gallon of (bottled) water every day though (and milk, and lemonade).

If they proposed poking some machinery up my penis, I think I would just go start drinking from a fire hydrant for awhile.  Though I suppose I would do anything depending on pain level.  My pain was steady and increasing for hours, but after I got in the ER with IV push fluids and dope, I was half passed out and just got used to it.  Released the next morning (with no pain but a big dope hangover), they thought I had passed it.  Well, I came home and slept all day.  And when I woke up late afternoon starving and ate something, the pain was right back, I went back to chugging water, and passed it that evening.

I hope you get some relief soon.

I've been pretty much pain free for the past couple of days. Surgery was suggested for this Friday. I said nope. I'll keep drinkingdrinkingdrinking and the urologist is on vacation next week so we'll see what happens.  angel

WOO-HOO!
From the Urologist :-

Your abdominal x-ray did not demonstrate any visible stones. As we discussed in the office this is not a perfect test and it is possible that the stone is still there.

However at this time if you wish to discontinue your Flomax, and discontinue straining your urine, as well as cancel the ureteroscopy that may have been in the process of being scheduled for you, you may. However this was a fairly large stone, and x-ray is not perfect, and therefore if you do develop flank pain again, I would like you to call my office back, to reschedule the surgery.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
